I've been using date-fns on the backend. It's great; so long as you don't have to deal with timezones, because the functions only accept and return Date objects, which don't support internal timezone. The other day I nee

It's not just that. Timezones are the real bugger. Microsoft has their own list of names separate from the standard IANA timezones, for example. If it weren't for timezones, IMO dates are pretty damn trivial. It's just a matt

They would be great except the problem is once you're done with school, it can be incredibly hard to stay in the US. So we end up losing the people we help train. Fixing it by reducing these students entirely is going in the wrong dire

The thing is, having worked remotely for a year... the people working remote are the ones that become at a disadvantage. Because people in office may forget to include them in calls or conversations.

I love Pinterest for bookmarking things. Like, if I want to buy a new pair of hiking pants and shop around, I save them all to a new board. Dinner recipes, things like that. But I never look at the feeds or things they suggest.

OTOH, if you use Flow or Typescript, it is amazing to be able to share type-safe interfaces across the stack (not code). I suppose you could get this from any compiled-to-JS language too.

Well, same could be said for Macs. I have both a Macbook and Surface. Windows has surpassed Mac at this point in dev friendliness due to WSL. I've got VS Code and Docker Desktop running remotely to WSL 2 and my Surface Pro is silent. M

I recently started a new app using Material UI, after doing web dev since pre-CSS days. I'm trying to grok CSS-in-JS, and it's only been a few weeks but it still feels so completely unneccessary.

Pixel and Samsung were intended to compete with iPhone, so the cost is going to be somewhat similar. Also, these go on huge sales every year, whereas iPhone never does. If you buy these at cost, you're doing it wrong. If you're re

On Android I have a similar problem; I use Reddit is fun, and so it doesn't open that app; it always wants to download the main app.

you really use the same id twice on a page?! Heresey! Also.. I do the same (essentially: margin: 0 auto) but it works with display: block too, and you don't need text-align center on the parent.

Check out VS Code. It can now read and edit files inside of WSL remotely [1]. I've been using it on a new project and it works almost seamlessly * . I don't know if other editors will get this functionality, but there's reall

I really like this idea! The setup was also very easy too and honest about permissions (using Firefox). I 'enabled' Hacker News for 5 minutes so i could leave you a comment :) Next I need this for my phone.

I just learned how to make my website accessible to screen readers (using aria labels, tabindex, etc). You should definitely check it out now to learn how it works. I only did part of my website and it seems like a full-time job. I'm n
