At my last company, the team's budget for merit increases was based upon the size of the team. More headcount meant more money available for promotions and fixing historical pay imbalances. It was not a good system that directly caused

Even the lightweight server options are very heavy (resources, install process, and/or UI clutter) or are a pain to deploy. Does a single user server exist? I don't want to host for others, but would like to interact with a few pe

Most of the cheap VPS providers I've seen don't provide API access to create/destroy the instance. After it's created, you can bootstrap it for docker with ssh+bash or Ansible giving more options for a consistent deploy

It would probably go bankrupt paying the storage costs. Hosted data is expensive to store, transfer, and even costly to delete.

They went as far as calling my personal cell with a marketing/sales pitch. Their sales practices are obnoxious and the reason I will actively try and keep them out of any company I work with.

Supporting multiple versions of an event schema is a solved problem. Apache Avro with a published schema hash in a message header is one solution. https://avro.apache.org/

I'm happy for you that cost is not something you need to focus on. For many people, they don't have as much savings or an income that is high enough for them to not focus on cost.

I appreciate when app maintainers set a standard for their dependencies. I wish it wasn't so rare. Node needs a static dependency checker to prevent using anything that has isodd or similar useless modules in its dependency graph.

That leads to the US healthcare billing practice of over inflated billing to see how much insurance will pay. If you give people money without fixing prices, the prices will rise based upon how much free money was given.

Your comment piqued my interest, but I didn't find the android (Manyverse) or desktop (Patchwork) apps to be user friendly. The UIs had a few UX oddities and unless you are convinced to join by others who are already using it, the soci

If the candidate says they don't know a topic, that is a valid response. It's not worthwhile to ask detailed questions about the topic. That's a sign of an inexperienced and/or unprepared interviewer.
