It’s a valid thought, but it would really be like trying to take pictures of the sky from underwater and using AI to make it look like it was taken from out of water. This means: the AI has to predict what it is supposed to look like and fo

For me it’s a non-story as I believe the main advantage of the M2 over the M1 is its 50% higher memory size (24 GB instead of 16 GB) and memory bandwidth. So if you stress all CPU and all GPU cores the same time the cooling can’t keep up. I

Oooh. This article taught me that in India of 1400 someone figured out how to calculate pi more accurately than had ever been done before and it took until 1600 in Europe that these methods were independently rediscovered.

This is OK for icon sized images, but it hurts me when I read webpages that incorporate photographs or visualizations in low resolution. They keep saying “Web resolution” and talk about something like 200x200 images maximum. Even for the pa

I agree except for the Python bit, which is factually wrong. Python allows you to program as if you’re a jazz pianist. You can improvise, iterate and have fun. And when you found a solution you just refactor it and use numba. Boom, it runs

The difference between modern humans and other animals, even extinct humans, is not the presence of intelligence, it is language. Just compared to other extinct humans, we are more social and more violent. I believe what makes humans differ

They can say what they want. What is realistic is that Qualcomm is ahead of any Intel and AMD offerings by using Cortex-X2, they just have to go ahead and build that SoC. Cortex-X2 is currently 1 year ahead of Intel/AMD, however Apple

For the past fifteen years I found that a main drive of ca 300 GB is needed. 256 GB can cut it if you don’t have many larger files, but 128 GB doesn’t cut it. I remember back in 2011 when SSDs started becoming popular people would cheap off

Mike Clark, the architect of Zen says in [1] literally that ISA doesn’t matter and that it’s all about the microarchitecture. Quote: “Although I've worked on x86 obviously for 28 years, it's just an ISA, and you can build a low-p

Look, we have the headphone jack (6.35mm) stemming from 1877, and its miniature form (3.5mm) from 1960. It’s ok to let USB-C live for another 60-100 years.

You get a comparable performance at 15W with M2 to Intel at 55W. Intel is not significantly faster, just more power hungry. That’s the mean difference in day to day usage.

The ISA does not matter in a CPU design. But the process node is also not the main reason. What matters is only microarchitecture. And Apple has by far the most performant microarchitecture design of all CPUs.

I tried Windows 10 and Windows 11 on a Mac M1 with UTM and Windows 11 with Parallels. I found that Windows 11 ran much better than Windows 10 (it gets stuck) on UTM and I found that Parallels ran much better than UTM. So, I’d say yes.
