Having good KPIs is hard. It does not excuse surveillance management, but it makes it understandable. I think it is important for employees that want to have less surveillance put forth the effort to heavily communicate to management.

The key difference is that Trump, as president, was the ultimate authority on what documents are his personal documents. Any documents that he took with him are presumed personal - and that legal precedent was established with Bill Clinton[

What a wild assertion. For many of these problems, the only way you might know ahead of time is if you did a really extensive background check. Such a process would mostly be a waste. It's perfectly reasonable and fair to hire people

Unconscious bias is a completely overblown concept, and some of the science that supports it (such as Implicit Association Tests) is hogwash. Note that I am not saying that we do not have cognitive biases (in the general sense of the term)
