We use Mypy to type check python, and I really like that system. Catches a lot of errors. Not as many as a full static typing system, but still a lot, and you can always drop back into dynamic typing when you want.

I feel silly responding to a downvoted comment, but here goes anyway: Correlation does not imply causation, but it wiggles its eyebrows suggestively and points “look over there!” (Thanks Xkcd) In this case, we are in a position of not knowi

I don’t think they are relying GPS for any indoor stuff. They are using WiFi triangulation, including a WiFi survey you can upload where you walk around with an app and say where you are on the map. WiFi triangulation should be able to pick

Ugh, this is both-sides-ism at its worst. The impact of actual fraud on elections is nil, whereas the impact of subtle disenfranchisement is easily election-swinging. Both are anti-democratic, but that doesn’t mean they are equally bad.

I hadn't heard of this till now, but I'm fascinated by projects like this. Others in this thread have said that there are leadership issues currently, leading to some kind of stagnation or decline. You said in another comment that

Could you unpack this? The only social justice-related example in the piece was a positive one (antebellum abolitionism). It seems like you might be reading into the piece more than was intended.

It’s procedurally generated, dungeon crawler, with collectible items and permadeath and resource management. I don’t like arguing over definitions, so call it whatever you want, but those are a number of components that feed into the appeal

This is very exciting! One subtle thing which I noticed is the distinction between class patterns and name patterns (bindings). In particular, it is possibly confusing that the code `case Point:` matches anything and binds it to the value P

I think culturally, because “explicit is better than implicit” (from the Zen of Python). Switch statements have a lot of implicit-ness to them (implicit invocation of equality comparison, to start) and it never seemed quite necessary, given

FWIW, a 10-day meditation retreat is a very accessible way to try a really different lifestyle for a short period. (You’ll probably want to wait to try it until COVID is less of a threat though.) If you want a specific recommendation, the G

With Strava, you record your workouts (run, bike etc) and it will show you where you went, how far and how fast. Then it finds commonly-run “segments” within your ride, and ranks you on those segments against your friends and the world, so

That’s the point of the article. You don’t need it. The soup is an excuse to buy the status symbol.

Resist the urge to be annoyed by this, and use it as an opportunity to practice a useful skill: that of searching for value from something where the value isn’t highlighted upfront. Most of today’s media tends to “tell you what to think” in

For me, scents are rich sensory experiences. Yet I can’t describe cinnamon to you, other than that it smells like cinnamon. It’s like an opaque pointer, I can compare equality but not inspect it beyond that.

Ooh, good question. (How big a market is currently is a matter of simple research, so I’m mostly interested in trying to guess about how a market will change.) I think the way most investors do it is probably by maintaining a “story” about

My house has the same street name and number as another house on the same block, across the town line (it’s about 15 houses away). UPS and FedEx drivers rarely mess it up, but Amazon contractors drop my package at the wrong house about 60%

Usually with company values you don't just give them to somebody once and never talk about them again -- you repeat them over and over again in company meetings, with lots of examples and associated lore. Most values can't really

At my company, they are cultural principles that make us different from other companies, that bleed into our hiring practice and day-to-day work. For example, "we are egolessly mission driven" is one of our values: this helps us r

I'm very excited about this! I recently switched to desktop + iPad, and I can't currently code at all on the iPad because all the apps I tried suck. I'm hoping that VS Online will solve my problem.
