For anyone considering skipping breakfast but finding themselves too hungry, I would recommend trying it anyway. When I eat breakfast regularly I get hungry at that time of day, but once I’ve skipped it for a week or two then my body seems

Do any of these services provide point-in-time backup recovery? It is very easy to implement with WAL archiving on my own deployment but I haven’t found any hosted services who do it.

I think something that characterizes a lot of stereotypical hacker news comments is reductionism of a product to its feature list. A classic one is on the Dropbox 2007 launch post ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9224 )

I would say yes. I'm pretty sure most people are writing all new projects exclusively in python3, except if you need them to run on old distros without any dependencies (lots of distributions shipped for years with python2 but not pyth

It's worth noting that Guido van Rossum, creator of Python, is working at Dropbox on this project, and that Mypy is funded primarily by Dropbox (I think). I'm glad that they are doing it, because it's contributed hugely to th

I agree. I’m certainly holding out lots of hope. It would be interesting to survey people who recently moved to or within LA, and figure out what % moved to anticipated subway accessible locations — that should at least be a leading indicat

They now (as of 2018 I think) make Extra Low Temp heat pumps, which can work down to -15F. I think that makes heat pumps practical for a very wide variety of temperate climates.

And if you visit The Strand in NYC (on Broadway and 12th) the top floor is indeed an antique shop. First editions, rare books and the like. It’s a special place to hang out.

It's about 1/5 the diameter of Pluto (500km to Pluto's 2400), so quite small and definitely not a planet. It's interesting because it could give evidence about the hypothetical ninth true planet-sized object that people

Indeed, a prior conviction raises the Bayesian probability of a given suspect having committed a similar crime. In probability terms, the prior probability of suspect S having committed crime Cn, given that they committed crime C0, C1, etc.

Indeed py3 decided to make unicode strings the default. This fixes all sorts of thorny issues across many use cases. But it does indeed break filenames. I haven't dealt with this issue myself, but the way python was supposed (?) to hav

Do you use Google's flight search? Somehow they have a seat-pitch measurement (I have no idea how they get this data). I have used it to make decisions.

Yeah I was confused by this also. It is cutting a precise vector shape by making small adjustments to compensate for hand shake and such. The "circle" you can see it drawing on screen is the amount of error it can tolerate before

This is sarcasm / a joke. Unfortunately, a number of people will take it seriously and post annoying comments on the github and here on HN, and it will cause a bunch of pain for the maintainers. Flagging.
