Thanks, I guess you're referring to my page from about 12 years ago when I offered to give emails to other people with my name? I think 5-6 other people reached out and I gave them emails that are still running now. I know one other Je

About 13 years ago when I started this, I selected what I considered the most well-known broad conferences in each subfield (I'm trying to avoid using the words "top" or "best"), though the list is notably missing S

If you're looking for a "menu" of papers from various subfields, I've been collecting a list of all best paper awards from a set of 30 computer science conferences for the past 25 years. This is just a personal interest

I read this article the other day, "There are four schools of thought on reforming peer review" [1] about how there's four schools of thought about how to reform publishing and peer review. Each of them independently are fair

Technical writing has swayed too much in the direction of over relying on punctuation, rather than writing good simple sentences. Trying to read a scientific paper is now a chore because of all the footnotes, parentheses, definitions and ab

One interesting thing is the US News College Rankings sues a completely system of measurements than the field-specific rankings, e.g. the US News Computer Science Rankings. The latter is based only on "the judgments of deans and senior

Actually the math doesn't work quite like that, but it's a common misconception. 53% indirect costs (overhead) is multiplied on the direct costs rather than the total amount, so it is actually 500K-500K/(1+0.53) = 173K taken

I'm surprised to hear this perspective. I feel like FLAC is to PCM as PNG is to BMP. Why not just work with FLAC directly? Half the file size in exchange for negligible processing time. As a practical use case, FLAC is the only way I c

Sorry about that (but congratulations anyways). But we have an old but explicit criteria that Best Student Papers are not included, as the Best Paper Awards we list have to consider every accepted paper as a candidate.

Thanks for the note, but I'm afraid not. At this point, it's taking a lot of time for the data entry each year, plus conferences are now almost all awarding 3-6 best papers rather than 1, so the annual work has expanded considerab

Surprised to see this here, because I don't remember reposting this today (but I did post a couple days ago after midnight and nothing happened), so maybe it's some @dang magic. Anyways, I recently updated this collection over the

I think the ideals are similar to indie web [ https://indieweb.org/ ], so maybe the author may want to join that community. Basically the indie web feels like a mature community-based approach to what the author is describing

I have done a lot of Win32 as well, and recently started a new project after a long haitus. The problem is there are some very occasional things that use char*, and so you have to keep that in mind: for example, some parameters in wWinMain,

It's a fair critique. But I think the maintenance and dependencies for a website are the main reason a lot of them die off (basically, the owner giving up on it because the cost to keep it up is higher than the value it provides the ow
