The process is slow because if it IS an explosive, you might get blown up trying to verify that fact.

This article was not what I expected. It's basically an ad for a product to solve a problem I didn't see at my university (admittedly that was quite a while ago).

Joel was a Microsoft guy, so I'm pretty sure he was looking for Visual Studio and MSDN licenses, as well as the latest Windows instead of 95/95 (or 3.1!).

It's 8k pounds, though, which is a lot more than 8k dollars. Edit: I'm impressed how my bad reading comprehension spawned so many replies.

It's funny, I think 7-11 are the peak. Everyone has a different range.

Buy a few Humble Bundles, where you don't specifically know what some of the games are, and it happens quick.

Steam has come a long way in recent years, but it would be nice if some of that fancy store logic they've written could be used on library management. I've collected over 700 steam games, and looking through them became unwieldy a

The worst part of TV are the ads DURING the shows. Ads for other shows taking up a quarter of the screen, without regard for the what its blocking under it. Completely ridiculous.

Not a particularly well-written article, but some interesting points. The constant "Linux isn't good enough shots" in all these articles is annoying, though. I was on Linux full time in 2010, and found it far more pleasant th

I used to be quite loyal to AMD (and I'm typically not loyal to any companies), but their latest chips are meh. Their GPUs perform very good in benchmarks, but are buggy and poorly supported otherwise.

Only tangential, but I really hate the "free to download, IAP to unlock" model. Why? Because IAPs don't "share" on family plans, so if I buy it, I need to buy it again for each of my kids. No thanks.

A good manager minimizes the amount of time a developer has to spend on stuff that isn't developing. In the right situations, a good manager can make a team of a few devs far more productive than if you added another dev in place of th

I've actually become quite familiar with Elasticsearch since then, whereas I stopped using Mongo (that project died). ES is indeed very powerful.

I used DynamoDB for an inherited project around the time I had gotten really good with MongoDB. I don't have any idea why anyone would ever use DynamoDB. It's like Mongo, without any of the good parts, that you can't run loca

Not the OP, but I hate the 2-page swipe-up screen. I can't get used to it. Having so much real estate dedicated to crap like AirPlay, AirDrop and NightShift makes zero sense to me. I'm not in love with "click to unlock"

This situation, from the initial complaint through to the apparent resolution, is absurd and strange. There were no winners here (besides customers getting extra stuff on Intel's dime, I guess?). That said, I think this is a time that

It's worlds better, but it screws up my mouse settings (with a Linux host). I have a fancy gaming mouse, so it's very annoying and noticeable, and I haven't found a solution yet.
