you can probe USB commands, but that takes a lot of time. much faster to connect a usb analyzer and then 'replay' to see what commands do what. http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2010/11/09/kinect-hacking-video... (demo of analyzer) http://git

Before trying to read Infinite Jest, try to read all his other essays (and short stories). This is really helpful. Be OK with the fact that you really aren't going to understand what happens the first time though, like at all. The book -mu

If you try to get new customers with price-cutting deals, you will get customers who want & expect price-cutting deals. If you try to get new customers with quality goods at a fair price, you will get customers who will pay a fair price

When I was there, this was true, and probably still is. I did an MIT EECS MEng and I'll be honest with you: its probably not worth it if you dont land a TAship or RAship that covers all costs. Getting into the MEng program is not done by ap

Two chargebacks a year? Thats quite a bit. Do you deal with a lot of sketchy places? Do you file a chargeback if you're not happy with the service?

Its been a while, but I recall that you -do- need to make an account - it gets created when you make your first purchase. But having to send people off to another site (where they get to reenter all their address info -again-) is a PITA and

How would a online merchant get PIN debit rates? I mean this in a very practical manner: I have never seen a merchant with any way to use a card as Debit - only as a credit card.

This is misleading. The 1.9% interchange fee is going the MINIMUM of many many different interchange fees especially Amex's and the vast number of 'rewards' cards. For online 'e-retail', expect at least 2.5% as well as many new and exciting

its not technically, but it is practically. i wouldn't say they -collude- but their discount rates (what merchants pay) have been going up. there are also new, completely arbitrary fees (yay NABU). and there is no incentive for prices to go

Slashdot should be nuked from orbit & put out of its misery. Its more painful to watch it because (at least) I expect better from geeks. Especially old-skool geeks. I've seen entire article comment threads that were completely technical

There's a really good ('selfish') reason to properly put interns on payroll. A tech company that has an unpaid intern working on something 'useful' - like writing code - is in a terrible position. If the intern is ignorant, sure no problem.
