For many (small) sites, having comments is a net good, but theres some sites out there that its like a plague. Think of it this way: I like to walk around the city. I do not like to walk on sidewalks that have piles of dog excrement and puddles of urine. Can I walk around it? (of course) Can I hold my nose? (sure) But, wouldn't it be nicer if it just wasnt there? :)
