You'd probably enjoy the forthcoming book which this article is promoting - it's pretty much an extract from it.

I've managed to get an advance copy of the book - I was skeptical at first (the back cover blurb on the review copy was pretty bad), and I'm only about 80 pages in. So far though, it's pretty interesting. The biggest insight is exactly how

Use it on your mobile phone, offline sync so you can listen to any track at any time even if you're offline. Search for an album, offline sync, you've got the album. Also wirelessly syncs your existing library.

I've had this idea for a few months and really wanted to build it. Imagine being able to record every user interaction, seeing their mouse move and following them through pages. The difficulty lies in replaying activity for web apps with lo

I hate to be "that guy", but the language in this article is really poor in both grammar and style, and it could use some editing to help with that. Are thenextweb articles normally copy-edited?

Yes, this is what's needed. I like the line about the banks. My biggest peeve with the UK scene is that we lose so much talent to banks and consultancies, especially among graduates; anything to turn that around is a step in the right direc

A great idea. You get to see votes only after voting, which eliminates social proof inertia and gives an incentive to vote. As long as you can't revoke votes (a la reddit), this would work beautifully.

I care less about the backups because I have Backblaze covering my whole Dropbox folder anyway, but I can forget about that annoying thing called "USB sticks" - for me the real benefit is file transfer and access across devices, not backup.

I really don't understand how people can find such little value in music that they don't think it worth paying £10 or even £5 a month to listen to unlimited amounts of it on their computer and mobile. Spotify is easily the best thing I subs

Actually that isn't unique to the school you worked at, it's a philosophical feature of the education system. I wasn't allowed to use a computer until I was perhaps 11 years old, and then only sparingly. I don't think it affected my later a

I went to a Waldorf/Steiner school, which shares some of these traits such as the lack of a focus on assessment and grading and the emphasis on creativity. We weren't taught the alphabet until the age of about 6-7 and basic arithmetic at 7-

No, only that once you have your core features in place, building more won't improve your product and won't win or keep customers. Meanwhile, as a non-tech business, your competitors can easily copy the features you built, so how do you win

Why don't you make your own little stable of design templates and sell them to these pain-in-the-ass clients on a non-exclusive basis? Later on you can charge more if they want it personalised.

I'm using Capistrano, which is pulling my code from Github, with a bunch of custom scripts to minify my static assets and send them off to a CDN. If you've got a fab file that works for you, there's no reason not to stick with it.
