About Apple's new headquarters: Shaped like a spaceship, it also suggests to the local community, which grants Apple huge tax breaks, that the company could take off and relocate anywhere in the world, whenever it wants. This seems p

No, read the description. To be personal data for the purposes of the GDPR, it must be related to an identifiable natural person (ie not a corporation). I don’t see how Microsoft could relate a MAC address to a natural person.

I think this is precisely true. The difference is, I usually go days and say thousands of sentences without my words degenerating into nonsense. And usually if I say some nonsense it's because I'm sleepy or drunk, so if I'm t

This is basically true, but I think they underrate the improvements between GPT-2 and GPT-3. My mental model is, every once in a while these systems degenerate into surreal non sequitur nonsense. GPT-3 just does it a lot less than GPT-2. It

Releasing model weights is more powerful, but far less accessible than releasing an API. You can easily waste an hour trying to get a model from a research paper running, even when everything works smoothly, just having the wrong environmen

I wouldn’t say clothes-sorting is just a nice-to-have - imagine you could get a third machine that sat next to your washer and dryer, and it folded clothes for you. I bet a lot of people would buy one, if it cost a similar amount to a washe

After all the attention OpenAI got for making the GPT-3 API semi-publicly-available, I wonder if Google has considered making some of their research models available via API. It would be pretty neat to be able to try these things out, rathe

I’ve always been curious about the fake-fish situation but it feels like there’s nothing I can do about it. It would be neat if I could get a cheap little pocket-sized DNA tester that I could test fish with. AFAICT the technology isn’t quit

Yes, almost definitely that is what happened here. IANAL but typically you can't sue someone saying, if I did X then they would do Y and Y would hurt me. You have to actually say that they hurt you. Epic wanted to challenge Apple'

The Fix The Internet incubator doesn't look like very much money is involved. A $2500 stipend for participants, a top prize of $25,000, not that much money. Whereas layoffs of 250 people will save maybe $50 - $100 million a year. Of co
