There is WebGPU (for example provided by wgpu/wgpu-native, or dawn). Easier to write, portable, and debuggable as Metal on macOS.

From Rust point of view, if you have to write these signatures, something may be off with your architecture. I.e. this is a thing that needs to be mutated from multiple threads, abstracted by a virtual table, and be nullable. And for some r

While true for most companies, this is not the case for non-profit organizations (FSF, Mozilla, etc). And some for-profits are mission driven (Tesla).

For me, it’s a modern equivalent of the soviet stores. There is no 10 kinds of everything, but the ones available are guaranteed to be fairly good quality and at an affordable price. Speaking more modern, it saves the mental effort of resea

At the high level, wgpu API follows WebGPU, which is designed by W3C. In your criticism, are you referring to the lifetime requirements on resources used in a render pass, or something else?

I believe it’s the story games that fit under “living” definition of the article - you merge the story experience into your life, making it richer. But online/MOBAs are more of a waste, at least for me.

One of the signs of an apocalypse/bloat is latency. Watching the industry from the intel 386 era, I’m only seeing it increasing. Every little action takes longer to start. It feels like we (in a larger sense) focused too much on throug

I worked on both games and browsers, and I’ve seen this comparison being made before. Browsers are way more complex than what meets the eye. There are requirements for high quality text, page consistency, lots of different content types, fi

I’m not a biologist, but I thought the neurochemical processes can be the results of an emotion rather than the cause of it. Instead, emotions are meta-level states of the system.

I feel CLion latencies even on a much smaller project. Sublime Text is faster, and I hope Zed is near. I guess people have different sensitivity for this. It’s not about time waste, it’s just affecting the flow.

Render pipelines use the same compute cores for running the shaders as of long ago. However, they also involve fixed-function pieces (some implemented in hardware) that compute shaders don’t have access to. Such as: rasterizer, blending, de

I’m tired of the linux distributions calling themselves different operating systems. Yes, Linux is just a kernel, but the experience you get is largely similar. Unlike, say, running Haiku.

I like to include traits closer to where they are used, to help with this. For example, “use cgmath::InnerSpace as _;” at the start of a small function. The “_” is a strong signal that I don’t need the type itself, but only properties of th

Power optimization doesn’t improve memory footprint. In fact, it can do the opposite and increase memory allocation. Think tradeoffs between memory and processing, e.g. caching of intermediate results.
