I’m tired of the linux distributions calling themselves different operating systems. Yes, Linux is just a kernel, but the experience you get is largely similar. Unlike, say, running Haiku.
- khaledh 5y agoAgreed. I occasionally reiterate that the term "operating system" should be reserved to significantly original kernel and/or system code.
- bravetraveler 5y agoI agree, generally I feel that once one reaches a certain comfort with the ecosystem... the distribution really doesn't matter that much. In the end they all pick from the same pool of file managers, desktop environments, yada, yada. I picked the one I landed on (Fedora) because I appreciate the unique tooling they offer regarding packaging and how it's closely knit to RHEL. I'd even go so far as to ask for fewer derivatives. Spend more effort making the ones with community mindshare/support fit your dream. Newbies will have a much better experience looking for support for those, than your newly created 'branch'.
