I wonder why they’re not using the system default webview… Does this mean it’s WebKit instead of Blink? If it is Blink, it seems likely that it’s not as up to date as the one provided by Chrome. EDIT: just noticed the docs link, yeah it’s W

I don't run a company either, but I suspect it boils down to how serious one is about not only attracting but retaining talent. The flipside of having access to a vastly wider pool of talent is that the talent has access to a vastly wi

It depends. It's not that uncommon for remote-only companies to offer location-agnostic compensation with tech hub city comp being used as the baseline.

Remote hiring can be a real ace in the hole for startups through midsize companies if leveraged correctly. They have access to high quality talent that FAANGs which insist on WFO likely never will, at least until pigs start flying and the C

As a guy, now that I've been working remotely for a few years I don't plan on taking a role that involves going into an office on the regular unless there's a massive comp jump involved. The time, money, and sanity that gets

Android seems to suffer from a phenomenon similar to "Windows creep" where performance decays over time for no reason in particular, even for users who are good stewards of their devices. It's more of an issue for some device

It would be interesting if a side effect of this proposed legislation, Android manufacturers stop pumping out new models as aggressively. It would make sense if that's how it turned out, because these manufacturers would effectively be

I do similar with the upstairs/downstairs, except in the living room it’s another PC instead of an Xbox. It does Steam, GoG, etc in addition to Gamepass for a much wider variety of games. It was more expensive than an Xbox sure, but th

With nearly all of the Xbox games I’m interested in being on Windows too and PlayStation having both better exclusives and better genre variety, I have no idea why I’d want an Xbox. The last time Xboxes were remotely interesting to me was w

For me the highlights of Voyager were some of its characters. The Doctor and Seven both grew into their roles very well and Tuvok is one of the most convincingly Vulcan characters who isn't Spock, for example.

Voyager had its moments and was a good fun “junk food” trek (great for unwinding after work, as I found out while marathonning all things Trek a few years ago) but yeah, the stuff Janeway manages to pull off with a tiny underpowered science

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but as someone who's bouncing between all three big desktop platforms pretty regularly, cursor acceleration is a total non-issue. I adjust to the difference so quickly that I don't even notice a differen

Linux too. None of the DEs are all that close to what I'm looking for, and of course building my own desktop from scratch with a window manager, bars, takes as much work as adjusting a DE and then a bunch more.

I have mixed feelings about Catalyst, but at least it moves in lockstep with iOS advancements/deprecations and isn't holding macOS development back for the sake of backwards compatibility with some obscure thing from 20+ years ago

Google and Microsoft are the worst for this. When you sign on you can see it flashing through several of their products, signing you on in each, before finally redirecting you to wherever you intended to go. It might be done for user retent

This is what happens when you have a leaning tower of abstractions, with each layer being developed with a philosophy of, "it's good enough". Some performance loss is unavoidable when you're adding layers, but that afore

Part of the problem is that it's hard to build native toolkit wrappers in a way that's "sexy". Cocoa, Win32, GTK, etc are boring old retain mode UIs using boring old patterns which lends to their wrappers being written t

It's not the whole story but part of what makes accessibility hard is toolkits not being designed with it in mind from the beginning. That's how you end up with things like accessibility "modes" that are really just skin

Also curious. I drink, but pretty sparingly (a beer or two per month typically) and wonder where the threshold is, if there's a threshold at all (meaning any amount has these effects).

Lower video resolution also feels like a decent tradeoff for a few reasons: - Thanks to the headset's optics, you're staring at a point in space ~5ft in front of you instead of a couple feet tops which cuts down eye strain - It&#x

One thing that I’ve not seen any traditional forum software do particularly well is search. For some reason, forum search sucks to the point that if the forum is visible when logged out you’re better off doing a “<query> site:forums.f
