low-code tools help domain experts do amazing things but eventually lack of simple understanding of things like data structures, inferential statistics, etc, always hit back... hard. By the way it’s the same issue with amazing programmers t

Sound advice. I would add find allies. Executive types are very politically savvy and will listen to you more if you have other executives or influential people backing you up.

Sort of. The issue is coupling data with sql databases doesn’t play well with even basic inferential statisics so you end up replicating data based on analytics use cases. Having parquet files in a cheap storage system that can be queried w

I add pension and sometimes health insurance too (if it’s good like in Germany I don’t). But you have a point and I should define it as “cost of living in a country for above 180 days per year” not taxes.

I am from a similar town. In my town you have the mountains at walk distance and the seaside (including the Amalfi coast) at 1-2 hours. I used to go run up a mountain to another village and come back down an old 1km staircase. Housing is ch

I got really deep into black soldier flies at some point and I can't understand why we are not turning organic waste into fly larvae. Larvae are 80%+ fat which means biodiesel + expensive chemical compounds like chitin. On the other en

I agree we need to start from an mvp and so with a data model, but does this model really need to be AI or ML? My counter point to your counter point is yes, we need a model, but probably the initial one can be done with simple BI/SQL

This makes sense. I am working with dask and it will become harder to keep this running in our “enterprise” aws setup as it’s open source with no vetted credible support company behind.

Just be warned, if you are used to vba you might feel constrained in the various dashboard tools we have today (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.). I am convinced we need more than that, we need tools to build web apps that allow data entry.

From my experience the issue with monoliths is organizational and cultural first, then technical (maybe). Monoliths are usually managed by 1 team (IT for instance). This 1 team has never had to collaborate with other teams on building/

Some of this new tech is simpler to run than MySQL/Postgres like S3/Spectrum. Excel is ok for last mile type of analytics but it doesn't work if you are looking for serious insights. Excel also generates a significant amount

I fear ML and AI are taking the lion share of analytics resources in most big companies and that's just not right. We still have basic problems with data integrity and blending. Getting a real end to end view of any business process is
