oh really ? i thought to have read benefits youd go RAID 10 and thats the main reason it exists in the first place, but seems like you are right but it depends on the RAID controller and drivers.

thats exactly what i mean, i could see most of the population with moderate internet usage move to mobile internet completely in the next 10 years. Its a different story for power users and businesses of course. On the other hand you have m

Raid 1 doesn't offer any performance benefits though but you could go with Raid 0+1 (or 10) but i believe read performance is still better in a Raid 5 configuration while write performance is lower. In the age of really fast SSDs Raid

By room you mean radio frequencies ? ok that makes sense. But for example my mom lives in a very rural area of germany but luckily still gets around 4MBps from DSL. That has been the case for 10 years though and will probably never increase

I don't know much about the broadband market, but i feel the future will be wireless highspeed internet. In many regions LTE/4G already reach very decent speeds with low latency, the main problem is insane traffic costs and probab

For me the MS Surface would be more appealing if they had built something like the Thinkpad Helix convertible, but i can't see the benefit in the typecover thing and the kickstand.

The chart is just about how many DPI you need based on a specific distance to reach the point where the average human eye would stop seeing benefits vs even higher DPI. Your points are more about refresh rates, video compression and lightni

Here's a chart which shows the ideal viewing distance for various resolutions, based on the smallest detail the human eye can discern at 20/20 vision. http://cdn.avsforum.com/4/4c/600x376px-LL-4cd4431b_20

You typically sit closer to a Laptop screen than to a Desktop screen, so this should be pretty close to retina level DPI depending on the viewing distance http://cdn.avsforum.com/4/4c/600x376px-LL-4cd4431b_200ppden

This. I have been using C# with Unity3d a lot and love it and i would love to try Xamarin with a sideproject, but $1000 per year/seat (yes i want VS integration) is just too much. Making this more affordable would do wonders for C#s po

Agreed, for all i can see Xamarin is perfect, but as i can't really play around with it and as it's quite expensive if you just want to publish a hobby app, i can't see myself using it yet.

Loading off most of the work to the client has its downsides too. If that was a reality i would assume that mobile devices would require quite a bit more battery power to render basic webpages.

Thats really cool but in a way i also admire people that get off the "I want more and need more all the time" train and work just to sustain themselfes on a basic level.

I think its true in some circles. Go to dev conferences for javascript/rails or other fancy web tech/startups and >90% use macs. If you don't you kind of look like someone who is an apple hater or too cheap to buy a mac. I

I strongly believe a lot of the mac trend came from Rails, Textmate and 37signals promoting that dev platform with their work. Add the iOS goldrush to that and you have your reason for OSX as a dominant dev platform. Especially in the start

unless you need a halfway decent GPU for you work, then you are bound to the top of the line $2600 rMBP. Thats the main problem with apple, very limited choices.

To me that WAS true. Nowadays i don't pollute my local environment with services and servers and run all of it in project specific linux VMs (through vagrant mostly). OSX more or less only runs my editor, terminal and browser, somethin

Today many people run their development environments in VMs with something like vagrant. That, plus the fact that *nix utilities are available through cygwin, make the choice of OS to run your editor in pretty unimportant and more a matter

If a programmer is compensated for his time working for a company i think the company has a right to claim the work produced during that time. If they pursue it, is a different question, but i think Zenimax has a valid argument here.
