Relocating sucks for people with homes, families, childhood friends, etc. I live where I live (Portland, ME) because I LOVE it here. The market for tech is not here (yet, it's growing), so I work remotely for a NYC company.

It doesn't have to be one or the other, it can be both. A system that does it's best to prevent abuse, and individuals who do not seek out ways to abuse it, combined make a best case scenario.

It's not always the person who pushed it on a friday that ends up fixing it, though. They can be unreachable, without a computer, etc etc. It's just easier to change less during hours you have less people on hand, is all.

The "scene" is cool. There are local meetups, some small, some mid sized. Monktoberfest just drew quite the crowd. As the other commenter said, there ain't much for investment though, and the companies are a mix of web boutiq
