This article is nonsense and I don't think any background research was done before writing it. It takes almost no effort to come up with an example of parallel processing in the brain. Pat your head and rub your tummy at the same tim

The article said he decided to quit THIS MONTH! Does that really justify an article on Sept 10th? Edit: it seems like that was a typo in the article if he says he was off for a whole year. Pretty big typo, though.

I often struggle trying to explain to more junior developers that there are times when it's OK to write code more than once. There is a mindset that you should only ever write code once. It exists for (very) good reason. But if you

I live in Baltimore. Is this on hacker news because of Trump? Baltimore is great. It has rats, sure, but I just went to a synchronized swimming exhibition at a public pool in Druid Hill park (of Dru Hill fame) that involved a segment abou

Does this have any sort of hinting for indexed queries at all? I would worry that a beginner would create a horrid mess of queries that could consume all available resources.

There are numerous articles out there that will tell you not to roll your own rule engine and indeed there are lots of them out there. But unless you are solving a well known problem, I've always found the open source rule engines to

I can second the sentiment in this article about SLA/SLE being very hard to define. For example, my company originally agreed to an SLA with a customer regarding API response time. The problem was that the SLA was a flat 500ms and di

I've found that giving my kids the vocabulary for describing what they feel has a huge impact on their behavior. Once they can name the problem, they are much more likely talk about it than lash out.

The biggest challenge with this approach is how you handle 'user context' and how the different front-ends manage that dependency.

My wife is a coal market analyst and says that Cloud Peak is just late to the chapter 11 game. The rest of them filed Chapter 11 in 2016.

This article reminds me of a complaint I've had about online gaming. I'm 36 and I remember when all online FPS games were played on centralized servers. If you logged on at the same time of day, you would see the same players you

Interesting.. I would actually think garbage trucks would be one of the last vehicles that are automated. They have to do some insane navigating in small spaces. It seems like the absolute hardest thing to automate that I can think of.

I'm honestly having a hard time figuring out what the take-away from this article is. It claims to to lay out a paradigm but it doesn't really seem to lay it out all that clearly.
