Agreed. ECS has several limitations that you don't really discover until you are fully into the weeds. Don't use it if you are just starting with AWS unless your use case is a straightforward website stack. Do not use it for co

I think most people want to write this kind of blog after slogging through the AWS learning curve. Then they figure out how to use it and the urge goes away.

Many people's work computers come preinstalled with MS products and have no choice. You might need to get a grip on how the corporate world works.

I think there is a distinction to make here about working extra hours because you want to and being told you have to work those extra hours. My company is focused on work-life balance and goes to great lengths to not ever explicitly say th

As a programmer, excel would be so much more useful if it allowed you to do things like filtering and selects using SQL or some other code so you didn't have to rely on the UI so much to do filtering.

All the comments here make me sad for my young children. I am now a lead dev at a medium-sized company, but I had a side business doing web design/development from age 14 to about 26. I never made big money, but when you're 15,

This article is very prescient. This is happening now and the pace is speeding up considerably. I work in healthcare and we hit a tipping point about a year ago where HIE's and hospitals are now comfortable with their vendors going t

Planning your network is something everyone has to do whether or not they are using AWS. I think its unreasonable to expect to just throw stuff in AWS without thinking about it and then complain when something comes up unexpectedly.

This could be re-made with a way to replace the node-specific stuff so it could be adapted for any ecosystem and it would suffice as a set of production-level programming best practices.

I just finished a big, critical project at work that uses this exact approach with an adjacency list in DynamoDB with 5 GSI's for different access patterns. Not only is it super fast, it's also very extensible. As this article s

I'm not sure what you mean by having to spend money maintaining DynamoDB. What maintenance are you talking about? You definitely have to spend money designing your application and figuring out how to keep it cost effective, but once

This all looks great but one of the primary advantages of DynamoDB is that you don't have to spend resources on maintaining or troubleshooting ec2 instances. When you have a large deployment, not having to worry about HA on your data

we're running a ton of .net core docker containers at my company. C# is really a great language and now you can run it on anything. If you haven't seen it yet, it's because you aren't looking that hard.

Doesn't this have more to do with how people are using the tool rather than how JIRA markets it? If you expect one piece of software to solve all your problems, then you don't know a lot about how software gets designed.
