I read somewhere that for a certain product (salesforce maybe?) that they discovered if a user uploads their own data they were 2x to 3x more likely to convert. The first step is always identifying the actually qualification event. The prob

This is a fantastic article. It brings about some important points regarding how free information should be and how much leeway prosecutors should have when deciding what charges to bring.

Very well written. Reif understands that there is nothing to be gained by outright pointing fingers. He knows that MIT played some part and basically admits it. What he doesn't want to do is go into details until he readily understands what

So heroku runs multiple apps on one box. I assume they are using linux and each app is under a different user account. However if any of those apps are vulnerable doesn't it mean the attacker has access to the box as a user? From there it i

I cook quite a bit and have a lot of friends who own commercial kitchens. - Victorinox Fibrox knives are by far the best value you will get. They are inexpensive and are quite the workhorse. - I agree for the most part about the pots and pa

How prevalent is Rails 3 right now? I somehow feel that defensive programming practices would have caught this bug. There is a lot of "magic" going on that lead to this exploit. Sending text/xml to an application shouldn't have a huge impac

God damn health care is like a boondoggle of epic proportions. Finding healthcare should be as easy as looking up a favorite restaurant and reading the reviews. Is there anyway to FIX this?

Has anyone actually found really good javascript source that they actually liked and would rip off? I'm sure it exists but 90% of it is a mess and it would be easier to reimplement. The other 10% is beautiful but only works if you have all

I hardly feel that backbone is well written and straightforward. This is one of the lines in backbone.js: if ((callback && callback !== (ev.callback._callback || ev.callback)) || (context && context !== ev.context)) I feel s

Why is it universally a better way? <span data-bind="text: someVariable"></span> may look ugly but it is very clear that there is a variable associated to this DOM element. It took some time getting use to but once I realize

If you use Knockout please consider being more vocal about it. It is a fantastic mini-framework/library but doesn't have the crazy PR behind it like backbone. Angular is great but the problem is you really need to use client side templating

Try knockout. I wrote a quick intro to it a few days ago: http://returnbooleantrue.blogspot.com/2012/12/architecting-k... I personally don't like backbone that much. I don't know why so many people love the damn thing. It is hard to under

It is not an overreaction. This is a much more subtle SQL injection. I believe the takeaway is that too much magic is a bad thing when it obscures the underlying behavior. Post.find_by_id( ) accepts an argument. Here are some normal assumpt

I'm sorry but this is braindead. I'm sure there are valid use cases but optimize for the most common one: find_by_id accepts a single argument, the ID of the object you want to find. That is why Python has kwargs. Those two stars stand ou

I am mostly a Django programmer so excuse my ignorance of rails. How does this keep happening? In Django you would do: Post.objects.get(pk=request.GET['id']) There really is no way to do SQL injection this way. This line in rails looks almo

Sure there are a lot of FaceTime like apps. But the problem is none of them have done a phenomenal job marketing to their demographic to really take market share. There are also a great deal of drawbacks to FaceTime which make it expensive.

I don't have any problem with an arrangement like this if only because it causes everyone to TALK about it. The fact is...every startup can come up with whatever way they want to split up equity. If this works for everyone involved then go
