This is such an awesome post. When I think about the history of bug fixing it seems like we haven't gone very far in the last couple of years. Measuring how long a bug takes to fix is still voodoo.

"HTML/CSS/JS is exceptionally good at building user interfaces." I can't believe you just said that. -- every seasoned web developer.

Why the hell is this comment on the bottom? I started with backbone and was like...wtf is this. Then I went to knockout and it is what I am using now. I used Angular in a pet project a few weeks ago and was totally blown away at how easy it

I've used both git and Clearcase in a large software company. The reason you'd go with Clearcase is for the tools and support. I personally think git is easier to work with but clearcase really worked well when your repositories got really

I totally wasn't aware Alex even had a kickstarter. I actually know Alex since I go by Noisebridge and saw him there a few days ago. Does Kickstarter bind you to a date to deliver a product or consider the whole thing as failed?

Who says they don't have any context? Off the top of my head I know ingdirect had a virtual pinpad. Combine this with a XSS vulnerability Icould easily send you a link to login to your bank website. The link would then load this type of mou

This is standard capacity planning which I use to do as an architect in a previous life. It really comes down to your business model and assumptions. You tell me that your model says you will have 1000 users in Month 1, ramping up 100k user

What is the purpose of the agent that sits on the server with the database? Is it to gather metrics? One possible architecture: - Agent is a process that sits on the database server written in Python. - Code a VERY lightweight, highly stabl

I've written a fulfillment engine before. It is complicated and generally does not lend itself to reuse. The reason is because the problem space is usually very specific. Building a general solution that fits everyone is near impossible. Th

Python package management comes down to pip install. The packages with C bindings I always run into are Postgres and MySQL libraries. On Ubuntu this is easy. On OS X it is a bit of a pain. That's really about the extent of the pain.

Wow. Staples would be the last place I'd guess disruption coming from for the 3d printing industry. Now when can I download a pirated schematic of an iphone and send it off to staples to get a fully working product.

This article makes a lot of assumptions but it is hard to deny that silicon valley is a magnet for people who love technology. It can be difficult to get a gauge on just how well the two parties are leveraging technology. My guess is they a

Does anyone else have a bad taste in their mouth from Google App Engine and as such is wary of using Google services over Amazon? It is probably irrational since App Engine has come a long way but I remember how Google generally treated the

Is there any reason that a gondola can hold only a maximum of 6 passengers? Can't you have a gondola the size of a bus? Imagine all the crazy muni lines in sf turned into gondola wires. Would be pretty awesome to be "flying" 15ft above all

These things look rad. If there was some way to keep track of the landmines detonated per Mine Kafo I could totally see making a game out of this. Donate $10 and get your name on a rolling mine clearer. Live scoreboard keeps track of mines

One thing I also wanted to add is that BizSpark gives you free Azure platform access...with Windows Server keys! I think it works out to be two "large instances" for a year. I think large is like 2GB ram or so.

Just a quick note that one of the easiest ways to get a legitimate license key is to join BizSpark. If you are a startup (which I imagine a lot of people here have some sort of startup) there is no reason not to be a part of it.

But I am wondering why you are unhappy with it being given away as prizes? I can see maybe it marginalizes the value of an animal's life and thus the prize is in bad taste (but then again this is Iowa and these are farmers).
