The Lenovo Thinkpad series is well built. The P50 (not sure what replaced it) is really solid, for example.

The pi 4 has gigabit ethernet. I'm not sure why you'd think it has "woeful network performance". The 3B+ could only do a couple hundred megabit, which was somewhat mediocre, though.

I've always felt like the base Model 3 and base BMW 3 series were very comparable. Add in a couple of thousand, and the 3 looks like a bargain. That becomes a harder sell when the Model 3 is actually more expensive to operate, as it is

I suspect that it depends on the play style of your opponents. A lot of people are too hesitant to trade in order to gain monopolies for multiple people early on. I've seen it play out this way with multiple parties not having monopoly

All of us have already volunteered to be a rat in a global experiment of sorts anyway. I'm not sure why volunteering for three plausible paths would be bad. With this kind of study, self selection might even be ok.

I keep hearing these stories about how Sweden's approach will end in disaster, but their new case rate is ~500 per day with >10,000 existing cases. A 5% growth rate of new cases strongly implies that they are already past the peak.
