Maybe I'm missing something here, but how exactly is it "unlabeled" data if they're specifically feeding it millions of pictures of "faces"? I mean, if you make a specific selection of the type of images you train the network on, isn't that

Can someone translate this to human for the rest of us?

The categories here are vague, without much explanation of what they mean or how they were evaluated. For example, I would argue that Backbone has both "UI Bindings" and "Composed Views", and in fact wouldn't be very useful otherwise.

Yes, it is pertinent. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a really dumb way to evaluate the "talent" of a person or company.

The talent. Meebo was started by Stanford grads... Can we please get over this dopey fixation on big-name elite schools?

I'm failing to see why Clojure is a bad choice for this problem. It's a general-purpose programming language, just like others that you mentioned. And beyond those, it happens to have the benefits of being more expressive, testable, concise

It's actually a great name, but it seems that they overestimated the vocabulary of their audience.

Amazing. I'd like to see a similar one going backward in time.

Most people will not fill 10 GB of emails in their lifetime. When you open it to syncing photos, videos, music, etc., they will fill 10 GB of stuff in a nanosecond.

> Git submodule is a mess and now a legacy of git. I hear this kind of thing all the time, but I don't understand why. I've never had any problem whatsoever with git submodule. Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by this?

This is a somewhat inflammatory title with a fairly unsubstantial article behind it. You must be new to Coding Horror.

There's a whole hipster movement going on right now around the idea of omitting semicolons from JavaScript code. I believe CoffeeScript is the culprit. Personally, I agree with Crockford -- it's dumb.

Ever wondered what projects are developed by the best kick ass hackers? Reads more like a list of the most well-known brogrammers to me.

Why would they transfer the entire 1.5g binary each time, and not a delta? Surely it doesn't change that much between releases.

I think what he's getting at is that your tone is needlesly hostile, and belies the claimed "intellectual" nature of your complaints. I, for one, cannot take you seriously for this reason.

Yea, I'd be interested in reading a balanced criticism of pg's work. But ahoy and the linked article smack more of scorned lover than unbiased review.

I believe the target market here are amateurs who don't have the skill or reflexes to focus properly ahead of time. I certainly fall into that category.

This is one of the poorest articles I've seen on the Hacker News front page. Author should endeavor to understand something more completely before publishing a long-winded and uninformed rant. Start with the concept of "compilation".

Okay, this is one example. I personally don't know any such person. The question is not: "can you come up with an example of the MPAA/RIAA/FBI collusive measures working?" It's: "will it really make any difference overall?"
