This was my first thought as well. If he instead initializes: var result = ""; and checks for: if (result.length === 0) { ... in the third conditional, is there still a bug?

Pretty cool, but what exactly qualifies someone as a "philosopher", and how is that relevant to this product?

I know a few people (who shall remain nameless) who collaborate and check each others Why would someone do this for a free online course that gives no credit for a degree? I mean, the whole point is to learn, not get the highest grade. I

Well, finding out that I've no chance of making the top 1,000 in the class or any opportunity of a job is certainly a swift kick in the huevos, 2 days before the final... :(

Can someone fill me in on why the regular solarized theme is not proper for Emacs 24? I've been using it for a few weeks, and it seems to work fine.

Too late. HN has basically become reddit.com/r/programming in the last year or so. The glory days are over. You have to admire how long the quality remained high, though.

Funny, I was thinking the opposite -- the Clojure code is far more readable.

I can think of a few reasons: * Some of us are actually comfortable with and enjoy programming in JavaScript. :) * Are we absolutely sure as of now that adding the CoffeeScript abstraction will not introduce performance regressions and/or s

How is this a defficiency in the C# language, exactly? Sounds more like an issue in the current version of the .Net CLR to me.

I'm a little confused here. Wouldn't client DNS resolution performance really depend on your local DNS cache (e.g. the DNS server at your ISP)? Nobody going to your site will hit Route 53 or MediaTemple's DNS servers directly. These only se

If you're going to try to convince someone that our universe has multiple parallel futures, you should be ready to explain how that relates to our lives. Isn't it a bit presumptuous to demand that any theoretical truth about the nature of

If Microsoft can't bring it traffic... who can? Facebook. Even though IE is still in the lead (for now), everyone "googles" and "facebooks" their way through the internet. No one "microsofts" anything.
