Before AppEngine, that's the only way I would write GWT apps. I loathe Tomcat. (I know there are other J2EE servers). I used Rails on the backend. It worked amazingly well.

I couldn't emphasize the part on focus. If you can't focus, you got problems. It seems to me that a lot of entrepreneurs suffer from entrepreneurial ADD. I've noticed that that's one key differences between those who succeed and those who d

I love GWT. I've been using it for 3+ years. However, I love it because when I write a large enterprise web app, Javascript just doesn't cut it. But, I'm also a C# developer, and so I feel that Java is holding GWT back - as Java bothers me.

I thought the video was very uninformative. Plus, she claimed that the test subjects still slept 8 hours. It's just wasn't continuous. What was your point?

I would also like to point out that most Angel Investors/VCs won't invest in LLCs/S-Corps. I think this is because of preferred options... I'm sure someone else with actual experience could chime in.

One of the most productive programming techniques that I have used (it's saved my ass) is to make sure that most of my code is unit tested. In the short-term you will feel like you're moving much slower. In the long term, it'll pay dividend

I don't think it's a good idea to just quit if you have a new idea that you think is better. I say this from experience. A few months back I was convinced that we should drop our iPhone apps because we weren't passionate about them. We were

While you are correct, Max Klein has come under fire for credibility issues on HN as of recent. I think that's the commenter's underlying question. Is this just another one of Max's "stories." However, it does seem pretty legit, as it's not

What I really appreciated about this interview was Jason Jacobs humility. To me that's one key characteristic of a good leader. Notice how he constantly praises his team? Others CEOs and leaders should use this as a positive example.

I want to build a website that can help you visualize your impact upon the world. It can be summed up by calling it Pay-It-Forward for books. It's called MindSpread. In essence you buy a book and give it to someone else on the promise that

Seth Godin said it best: "Ironically, playing it safe is the most unsafe thing that you can do." His point is that you have to put yourself out there and take risks to be successful. Sitting back and being "safe" is akin to waiting for prob

Ya, but what I don't get is why an iPad app needs to raise $8 million or why Slide.com that just sold to Google for $180 million raised $87 million. I must be missing something? Does most of the funding go to marketing, engineering, what? W

There is no such thing as a perfect app. That is the first problem I see. Developers often fall victim to this line of thinking, and who couldn't? I mean, after all it is your baby, of course you want it to be perfect. That's not reality th

I thought that this was a brilliant article. I often suffer from the problem of starting work only to find myself compiling some code and then taking a quick HN break and then 45 mins later asking myself what I was doing. I created a very s

I couldn't agree more. It pisses me off when people say "I don't have the time." What they really mean, is that they don't want to make it a priority. People need to consider their time like an investment, and maybe they'll consider watchin

I think Jason knows exactly what he's talking about. After reading this: http://www.aarongreenspan.com/letter/index.html and this: http://venturebeat.com/2007/09/02/who-founded-facebook-aaron... The quote seems very fitting towards you.

It's my understanding that: 1) If you don't intend for investment now, go for the LLC route so that you avoid double taxation. 2) If you want VC, you'll need a C-Corp as you noted. For the weird states... you may want to register in Nevada

I really like Eclipse, although lately I've read a lot of vitriol towards it. It works for me, but then again I only use Java for GWT and Google's plugin is only for Eclipse. But its refactoring capabilities are satisfactory for me. I use N
