Fun fact for you, a lot of pubs in the UK are shifting to requiring photo ID to enter, and scanning that ID into a centralised system, often as a requirement from the police to retain their license to serve alcohol. I ended up chatting to o

I feel like we’re in an ever escalating arms war here, with the result being an internet full of vacuous stuff posted just because that’s what everyone else does. Every blog post, tweet, and event listing must now have a bland stock image t

Open Banking is in some ways misnamed - you can't as an end-user just do OAuth and get a data feed out of your account, you'll have to go via a third party who've jumped through all the hoops.

That “just” is doing some very heavy lifting. That could potentially involve having to update almost every financial system worldwide given the US dollar’s position as a global reserve currency.

Everyone being in different sub-cultures doesn’t mean people have nothing to talk about, it makes conversation way more interesting if you’re just willing to step out of your bubble for a bit. Some of the best pub conversations I’ve had hav

For years my monitor was a 22” Sony CRT which took two people to carry, which went with my to LAN parties. That thing was terrifying to carry down a flight of stairs.

We had a long running adage that the games would start at LAN parties about 10pm. Didn’t matter when you arrived to set things up, could be 9pm, could be 9am, technical issues would conspire such that they weren’t resolved until 10.

Depending on who was curating this I’d be up for it, and will now be quite surprised if Substack don’t make it happen at some point. I think there’s a lot of value in being able to delegate to someone who knows a particular field the abilit

I suspect some of this is why more recent DJI drones have an OS and screen on the controller, because that way they have a single set of hardware to target, and even if some future Android release breaks backwards compatibility they can sim

The theory and the practice of unit tests are often different things. In theory you’ll make changes to the code, and the unit tests will show whether they had the intended effects. In practice, because often the unit tests are mocking out a

They're less common in the UK now mobile apps have taken over, but in the early 2000s banks would issue a standalone device to every customer. When making payments via online banking you'd put your card in the device, hit a button
