If they didn't have those insane installation instructions that said: sudo chown -R `whoami` /usr/local I'd check this out. But I just can't bring myself to do it when they still have that as their default install instructions.

There were a number of sites that were launched shortly after arc came out based on the news.arc code. The arc language and code are under the Artistic License 2.0 [1]. (I admit that I thought they were public domain) See arclanguage.org fo

Yes this is a great time to ramp up a new project. I found a great designer who was laid off from a full-time job as an Art Director. He is doing contract work now but only part-time while he looks for another full-time job. This gave me an

I happily signed up on coder.io because I knew enough about the site to sign up. In this case, they're promising more than they're actually delivering right now but present you with a way to potentially get better access. That is it. I ne

You should come to a Tucson Startup Drinks get together. It's a combination of small business and startup business owners and employees in the Tucson area. There also tends to be a lot of like-minded students in attendance. The google group

Ya I used to agree with you completely. I still do for the majority of pages out there. I recently learned of a counter example. There is a locally owned sports bar and restaurant that has a very active group. Most of the members are fans o

Here's the main page for open source facebook projects: http://developers.facebook.com/opensource.php I agree it's a bit silly. I think they hope that it'll catch on sometime in the future and they'll have yet another type of group social

Who is the iPad for? I've been thinking about this for awhile. I think the target is people who use a laptop for web browsing and email most of the time. Rarely they'll need to use it to create a document or presentation. If you ask them

Ya I noticed that too. I'd love to have some performance benefits from JIT too but not at those costs. 2.43x - 2.76x increase in memory to Django[1]. Ugh. That's a large enough change that I'd have to upgrade hardware. Come on now. [1] htt

As a follow up, I didn't explicitly state one of my points. When you are taking 50000 shots per project you only need one to come out perfect. So when you look at award winning shots like this it could be a 1 / 1000000 shot. It's seems poss

I agree it's a great shot. I can't really speak to whether it is fake or not. You make some good points about the perfect and complete lighting. I've been lucky enough to spend time with wildlife photographers in the field. As far as I can

It's an honor and privilege to be chosen to go to Antarctica. Especially if you can actually participate in your field of study. My guess is whoever gets hired is already coding for a similar astronomy or physics project. I've heard of some
