That makes sense. I'm watching the iPhone app market, and just wondering how developers are determining their pricing strategies.

I've seen this strategy before for iPhone apps, and I'm still not sure I completely understand it - for instance, RunKeeper Pro was free for the month of January. In your case, is it to push sales of the Gaia GPS? Thanks in advance for any

Your job posting looks great - the problem might be Scottsdale and the size of the tech community there. It could be that all the entrepreneurial developers there are working on their own projects. Have you thought about reaching out to the

Watch out on the Advil(ibuprofen)! While that probably really helped your run, you can end up with a condition called exercise-induced rhabdo if you don't hydrate properly. Here's a readable article http://www.trailrunnermag.com/article.ph

I don't think small-to-medium businesses will know what CMS, or a next-generation web application are. Is your web site powered by your software? If so, I'd suggest that your software support SEO-friendly link-paths like Drupal or Wordpress

Great! Glad I could help! You should probably tie software versions (of the app being instrumented) into your tracking and reporting as well, so if errors are still being thrown, that's because the user's on 2.0 and the bug is fixed in 2.0.

I think that's pretty vague. I took a look at your sample report ( http://usermetrix.com/projects/2 ) and your home page, and it looks like you have a combination of Java AOP logging and exception logging to a database, and then you make a

Why not use semantic class names with the grid system? That's what a tool like Compass ( http://compass-style.org/ ) will do for you. Also, if you're using a template or theme, many of the changes you'd need to make if you were changing the

My #1 tip is to use a CSS grid system such as 960.gs - http://960.gs/ or Blueprint CSS - http://www.blueprintcss.org/ You'll solve so many headaches with layout, at the cost of having ugly CSS class names.

Out of curiosity, were none of the major tech publishers interested in a book on SproutCore? I hope it goes as smoothly as they hope, farming out the writing tasks in parallel. I've found it tough to work with just one distributed co-author

I've been developing in Java for a while, and a lot of Java code is ugly because the "patterns" developers use are ugly. That's not to say that you can't write great code in Java, but compare a Java app with JavaBean getter/setters to Sprin

Do you use Boks ( http://toki-woki.net/p/Boks/ ) with your Blueprint CSS framework? I've found Boks to be a great way to bring some of the benefits of mockups to HTML prototyping. I still start from pen and paper first, because I find that

Interesting, but for the context of the project (self-sufficient villages) what's the energy requirements? Aluminum isn't scarce (most abundant metal in the earth's crust), but turning alumina into aluminum requires a lot of energy. Check o

I'd take off the Vibram Five Fingers, unless you caution your running geek to take it easy in them. In a marathon I did on Sunday there was a lady wearing VFFs who already had two stress fractures, but was still determined to run in them. W

Hi, I read the whole thing and enjoyed it. I do feel that I can't give your "Lean Canvas" an honest appreciation unless I sit down and actually do one for my startup, but that's something I'd like to do after reading your book. Is the book

Rand's blog post demonstrates that there's now a pretty big disconnect between anchor text keywords and actual link quality - he makes an excellent point that natural links aren't likely to put the keywords directly into the anchor. It's su

Can you prototype the UI in GWT first, and then see if it's worth the trouble to port your existing app to GWT? There isn't likely to be that much code reuse with GWT between the client and the server - maybe some validation code. I'd look

It sounds like you have a good idea of what you want to build, which is great! Now it sounds like the thing you have to do is figure out the data architecture - that could help make the rest of your technology stack decisions for you. For i

Looking at your resume, you've got decent experience with both undergraduate research, TA'ing, small companies and a large company. I had similar experiences at CMU when I went there (for ChemE, not CS), and I decided that entering industry
