The current Apple TV could serve that purpose - no reason for it to run macOS. Or even to be any faster, the 4k Apple TV is surely fast enough.

I don't know if you missed it...but that is the focus of iOS 12. Performance is improved even on older devices and all devices that can install iOS 11 can install 12. There are barely any new features other than some small quality of l

I've noticed this, but my thought is that it is just the natural faraday cage created by having a cement building filled with metal shelves. Combine that with towers transitioning to use LTE over 3G and you get reduced coverage indoors

I don't disagree, but the light ring is also important to know that it actually heard your command. Having it on all the time would make the UX much worse. Unless it was a separate light.

Unable to unlock doors from the app or other automation - the keypad still worked. Still, this is the problem with all cloud based home automation platforms.

I went Z-Wave with home assistant. Not the easiest in terms of setup, but everything is run locally (I started on an rPi but am now transitioning to a Intel NUC.)

The difference is on iOS you can specify to share your location only when the app is running in the foreground. They could both still be improved - it would be nice if you could do one-time permissions, like access the camera, but only this

Does that actually happen though? That seems to be a bad algorithm if the one exception becomes the norm after reinforcing the correct action many times. I use Siri's suggested apps all the time (pulling down spotlight search and they

According to this ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303 ) everything is encrypted at rest on the server, except for mail. Everything isn't end-to-end encrypted, is that what you are talking about?

When I was a kid in the 90's I had the same experience. My family had friends that would just stop by and they would entertain them for an hour or two just to catch up. I think our "connectedness" killed this off - now we see

The $500 Mac mini can handle Xcode just fine, and that is a many year old machine that hasn't been updated. Maybe not if you've been spoiled on better hardware, but it performs adequately.

But even driving is going to have a massive impact, beyond just trucking. That will be the first to get hit, but then you hit the taxi services. And then the big hit - the entire auto industry. How many people are going to decide they don&#

My biggest issue with Instagram's algorithm is that it resets on every view. Which is understandable from a product marketers perspective - if a user sees the same post up top they are probably just going to close the app again. The pr

There whole system seemed a bit odd to me, given a password to your "account" is optional. Using the terminal you can login with no password, then at the end it asks you if you want to save your credit card to your account. Maybe

This is non-issue. Do you really want a mobile OS where third party apps can literally do nothing? No contacts, photos, camera, accelerometer, gps, microphone. Each one of those explicitly requests the users permission. Facebook would track

I think the trust is a new thing though, new to the social media age. I remember growing up with computers in the 90's and people I knew wouldn't even consider entering a credit card number on a website. Now we give them freely. P

I think so, at least in the US in the 90's when I grew up, thanks to things like the food pyramid containing grains as the base. Companies that had sugary/carb heavy products pushed the idea that fats were what caused weight gain.
