Mermaid can be plugged into Pandoc, so you can create decent PDF docs in Markdown that include diagrams. We store the Markdown files in git and have a Makefile that converts to PDF.

Yes, MIT is a level above. I have an M.S. from a good state school and took a graduate course where the text was SICP (Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programming). At MIT that's the freshman course text book!

Code does not rot. It gets complicated and starts to look rotten, but that's the hard won complexity of features and bug fixes. To think you can start over and not re-introduce bugs that have already been fixed seems foolhardy.

Powershell has aliases, so you can use 'ls' instead of 'Get-ChildItem'. My colleagues tend to use Get-ChildItem in scripts and ls when typing at the command prompt. Personally, I prefer 'ls' for scripts too. I
