You can eliminate 99% of these attempted logins by changing your SSH port from the standard 22 to something else (say 2177 or whatever). Login as root (or su), open the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and change the port number. Save your chang

In over 2 years I've never once seen Xcode update through Software Update - is there a secret setting somewhere to enable it? I'm ready to plunk down the $4.99 just to get the automatic update in the App store. Thanks!

I've been hit by your first point as well (not often, but often enough since I switch between resolutions frequently), and if you press the maximize button it will often (not always though) "raise" the lower portion up above the dock enough

Speaking as a current Dotcloud customer, the setup they've created to handle creating and managing the various components of your "stack" is very cool - within a week of starting work on our first project hosted on Dotcloud I was already pl

It depends on your definition of "bad" and your situation - if you are selling licensed software, then selling licenses "scales" (there's little added cost for creating another license), while support has a harder time scaling since it is t

Yes - we're developing a new product in a related area (that we can target to our existing customers), but it's really an entirely new direction for us, and really could easily be the start of a "new" company.

I hear you - at this point, 6 percent wouldn't be a whole lot though. We've been operating (mostly) profitably for a long time, but nothing to brag about. I'm just curious if anyone has done it before, and how it worked out.

Does YC usually only accept new (i.e. early stage startup) companies? We've been online for almost 8 years now, and we have a new product we're really excited about. We already have demo code for the new product, not to mention an existin

We've been doing the same thing on Linode, and initially did our development on Rackspace cloud. One important thing to note about Rackspace cloud is that your private network bandwidth is limited to 10mbps when you're on their small Xen i

This is an interesting point - thank you. What would you consider the level of transparency to be? Does it mean sharing detailed revenue figures, or is it more about simply being open about your "growing pains"? Thanks!

Yes - I definitely can see that being a plus. Can you think of any negatives though (besides hiring) that come from NOT being transparent? I think one of the biggest concerns small companies have is that divulging their monthly income can

Maybe it is just me, but I've never seen the reason for being "transparent" about internal business processes. While I am certain that the HN crowd here finds it interesting, our customers have never once asked us (in 8+ years) to divulge

I would settle for being able to simply use a bluetooth keyboard - that would be sweet - just put on some headphones for audio. I do quite a bit of itouch gaming, and would love to be able to do that.
