This appears to be a half-functioning project by an inexperienced but enthusiastic young person that has gotten way more attention and been taken more seriously than he imagined. I can see myself having done something like this when I was 1

I've tried and failed many times to keep IRC in my workflow. I always wind up opening it for a few days/weeks then eventually just kinda fizzle out. My company installed slack and it was just like wildfire - the whole team was on

Before bootstrap and the like came along, all of us developers were creating web apps just as we do now. They just looked like crap! The CSS frameworks have evolved everything form "ugly" to "boring" which I guess is som

I've worked at bootstrapped companies where we were always squeaking by every month fighting to become profitable. But at least you are in control of your own destiny. Nobody can force you to shut down as long as everybody wants to kee

I got my start in the 90's and there has always been a bit of arrogance in programming and IT. Saturday night live used to have "The IT Guy" who was a rude, arrogant support engineer. I write it off a lot of times as social a

Startups often being 2 college buddies with a bright idea - healthcare is a tricky one because it can require credentials and legal expertise in the field. It's a lot safer to build a delightful todo app.

I personally think the "crazy" label kicks in when the person has severely diminished their actual, real life in order to prepare for an unlikely future scenario. Especially when that scenario is strangely specific and seems more

In my experience you pay a ton more for the same amount of resources when it's PaaS so it makes sense that providers are going to push that over just configuring your own blank VMs.

+1 for just starting with bootstrap - which will introduce you to a little jQuery. That'll be a good foundation and will allow you to have some fun without being overwhelmed. Once you have that in your pocket you'll be ready to t

I wouldn't really make the judgement of "hipster doofus." But surely the author gets some kind of kick out of using retro tech. I don't find anything wrong with that at all but I would at least have admitted that I like

That's fair at least you got recognized with a salary increase. Just curious, would you have been a little upset if everybody got bumped up $9 and you didn't get a raise so you stayed there at $9 with everybody?

The hosting costs appear to be about $70 ($30 for the hosting and $50 for the DB). That doesn't seem excessive to me. The other expenses appear to be various other services (slack, support site, logging service, etc). Lot's of 3rd

This whole VC mentality of a company having to explode with growth reminds me of shows about the old day traders snorting coke and running out on the trading floor, crushing deals. It seems short-sighted and aimed only at huge payouts for t
