I worked completely remote for 2 years and anywhere from 1-4 days a week for the past year or two. - Get out of the house. I'd set the goal of getting out twice a week. Worst case, go eat and work somewhere with wifi. If you can meet with f

I get about 1 every other day. I ignore them. They generally are so clueless that they're not worth my time. If I ever wanted one, I know a couple recruiters that know what they're doing.

I saw something great in some Seth Godin piece. If your boss (or team) doesn't yet trust you to do big, impactful things, take on other projects to earn their trust. The breakthrough idea was that they don't have to be product projects. Jus

I'd use it for two things: directions and boarding passes. Otherwise my printers are basically containers where the kids go to get blank paper to draw on.

I've kind of lived this for the past couple of months. I haven't spent the time as well as I'd hoped due to some family and other issues. Picking something to focus on was my hardest part. Lots of interesting startups, technology, and stuff

I know of almost a dozen Kindle Fires that parents are holding onto to give to their kids at Christmas. I think the Amazon downloads will pick up quite a bit in the next 3 months, especially for apps that could appeal to older kids. But it'

Congratulations on achieving your target. Is there any chance of you getting apps into the Amazon store or are they only allowing U.S. developers? I know techie bloggers aren't loving the Kindle Fire, but I know a ton of normal people buyin

Any idea why your iStockPhoto income dropped just for this period? It seems like a fluke / outlier, not a long-term trend.

iOS users, at least many of the early adopters, were used to spending money in the iTunes store on music. It was an easy leap for them to go from spending 99 cents for a song to 99 cents on an app. There are iTunes gift cards in almost ever

There are less women going into computer science because there are less women in computer science. It's an issue of the social norm, not math ability, biology, or anything else. Most people, male or female, will pick colleges, majors, caree

We got one for my tween daughter. All things considered, it's one of the nicer cheap Android tablets. The screen has great viewing angles. The lack of hardware volume controls is a pain. I didn't notice any video quality problems from Netfl

Maybe it's because I worked so long for an IBM partner and dealt with IBM customers, but DB2 runs a lot of stuff at large Fortune 500 companies.

I'm curious how the mechanics work for publishing an app to the iTunes store for a client? Does the client create the account and handle publishing the app? (Do they need to sign the package, deal with XCode, etc.?) Or does the client creat

AdWords could work if you can cheaply own the exact niche. The blog will take quite a while to draw any significant amount of traffic. The best bang for the buck might be to get noticed by some high-profile blogger. Make a funny demo video

It just dawned on me that I didn't mention the TEDx part of this. This kid building apps is pretty cool, but the fact that he put together a talk and presented at a TEDx is what might be even more impressive. There are many different sizes

I have mixed feelings about some aspects of FIRST Robotics, mostly about how much kids really learn when they're so focused on winning. (That's actually a core value of FIRST - "What we learn is more important than what we win", but a lot o

I help coach a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team. When I opened up my MacBook one day there the kids went nuts seeing XCode and the iPhone simulator open. A couple of them would probably rather be building iOS apps than doing robotics. One

I love my 15" MBP screen (the hi-res anti-glare). I haven't used a MacBook Air except in stores, but I have a 12.1" netbook with a glossy 1366x768 screen. I couldn't live with less vertical pixels than 768, but the 13" Air's screen would be

Another interesting mechanism is what ChessTempo.com uses. Players and puzzles both have a Elo-like dynamic ranking. When a player beats a puzzle, the player's rank increases and the puzzle's rank decreases. This makes it easy to, over time
