Preventative measures haven't necessarily failed entirely. The renewable power and battery electric vehicle revolutions are underway, and vastly more successful/rapid than almost anyone predicted. But, they need more time. I see g

Your problem with EVs is that they don’t eliminate the idea of cars? Let me guess, your problem with the Impossible Burger is that it doesn’t eliminate the idea of eating meat? Entangling ideology with progress is a recipe for getting nothi

Instead of “wow, cool” my first reaction is “free messaging is a great perk, if this is abused they will shut it down” . I guess my hacker days are behind me.

I think it’s more likely these people mainly enjoy designing hardware, not tools for designing hardware (aka software). Learn to use a tool, and use it. It’s a hammer, start driving nails Software development is unique in that tools for b

What are your electricity prices? If I assume 34p/kWh and 150p/L for gas, 3.3mi/kWh and 30mpg, and plug it into a unit converter, the EV is almost half as much to fuel. Are your electricity prices higher than 70p/kWh now

I would suggest it’s simply because flights are often much longer than a subway ride. Making small talk for six, eight, twelve hours isn’t really fun for anyone.

I find it more convenient to use water because I have to watch the thawing meat in the microwave like a hawk; it’s very easy to cook the edges on accident. The center also stays more frozen. To each their own.

There are often fairly sensible reasons or good intent behind many of them. People don't normally drink hot water; it's not a great idea, as it has higher levels of dissolved solids and higher risk of contamination by organisms (l

A survey sticks in my mind; it found that people were considerably more willing to pay higher taxes if they trusted everyone else would pay their share too. I think the same lesson can be applied here. Nobody wants to personally make big sa

It’s a pretty good website, but considering it’s replaced full-time humans arranging your reservations by hand for a fee of $0, I’m not seeing the fees as reasonable. It feels a lot like economic rent, with Booz Allen positioning themselves

The author is assuming inference will eventually get broken across many cheaper machines. To their credit, if an nvidia box is $50,000 and a cpu box is $5,000 then a cluster of ten cpu boxes is only one order of magnitude behind.
