This gradual construction and refinement of exactly what you want reminds me of a certain TNG episode where they do just this: http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Schisms_%28episode%29

It's not as idiomatic as with Acme, but you can program text transforms in any language with Emacs too. Just use C-u M-| (shell-command-on-region).

Maybe using the software maliciously is a bad idea, but this seems to have exactly the same functionality as those programs people put on their laptops in case it gets stolen.

Undergrad here; not true. I'm currently building a scanner because I hate carrying my textbooks around campus, and any one book is heavier than my laptop. I did search for pre-existing scans, but most of them don't exist. By the way, scanni

I'm no expert on the antiquities of English, but they were interchangable in English in Shakespeare's time. Here are some asciified lines from Macbeth: I goe, and it is done: the Bell inuites me. Heare it not, Duncan, for it is a Knel

Jesse Schell ( http://g4tv.com/videos/44277/dice-2010-design-outside-the-bo... ) said convergence doesn't generally happen, except for the "pocket exception", which includes swiss army knives and mobiles. He predicted the failure of the iPa

I may be reading it wrong, but it sounds like a px is a pixel—until you zoom in. If you define a web page’s default font size as 12px, and it stayed at that no matter how much you zoomed in, it wouldn’t be much of a zoom feature, would it?

This needs to be updated to compare against Word 2010. It's not there yet (and will probably always do line-by-line breaking, because who wants their text to jump around while editing?), but it can also do things that are not easy in LaTeX

A while ago this was posted: http://www.kk.org/quantifiedself/2009/10/the-false-god-of-co... I found it interesting, if not very rigorous. It shows that one man's productivity did not suffer after quitting coffee.

I think hygiene is important, but Zed was not remiss in leaving it out of a health article. A separate article about programmer social issues would be great, though.

What I'd like to hear is of Apple publishing some guidelines for its reviewers to follow to ensure this kind of thing happens less often. Something like, if you have to confirm that you're over 17 to use it, it's OK for it to have nudity,

Seconded, it was a great book. I recently read a meta-analysis of salt studies that concluded that there was no clear answer, but I can't find it. Instead, here's another NYT article that talks about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/23/s
