Not really. If you think about it: Magnus, is Magnus. He has an aura about him. People make blunders playing against him they wouldn't against others. This is known. Magnus is ALSO very good. But that "aura"... doesn

C2H discounts and distorts more than your pay. As an employee, you are taking on a 6 month contract can be terminated at any time, basically. And you are stuck performing "for your job". From what I've seen with C2H employee

Indirectly. I worked on a project not owned by a single company. But Red Hat hired me to work on it after, I worked on it at another company. :) Alas, since I haven't found a good OSS gig. But that's life.

You are assuming it is popular, and not that only a few vocal people are talking about it. Remember the HN community is large. I use VSCode for most things, haven't tried the Jetbrains stuff much, besides in an interview where it work

In systems: Politics is as much a constraint as budget, and technical constraints. If your manager will not accept way X. It really doesn't matter if X is optimal. You'd better find Y, or convince the manager.

For a programmer: Coding is like being fluent in a spoken/written language. Some of us are even polygots. But really... As you go on in life, what you do, and why you do it matter more... because everybody knows how. Duh. /s (Bu

Not true at all. As a group workers have far more power than alone. So the "free market" for workers says they should unionize as soon as they have the power to, because they can drive the price of their services up. Monopolies

50/50 is a lie. For the person working it, both sides often expect priority or "more" than 50%. When someone wants to 50/50 me, I tell them, 51/49 is fine. But there must be a clear priority when there's a con

People underestimate this. But you are very right. I'll give a small story from my distant past: I went to a college with Sun IPCs and IPXs. It turns out, if you make the terminal beep on one, it is the HIGHEST priority thing the mac

I'd agree with this. If they want people to crank out the product they have in mind... Test for hte ability to crank code. And in that case the leetcode interview may actually be very valid, and not even evil!

That's ok. There will be a prep school for the best. People will study to the test, and we'll have "cracking the association". People will always study to the test. So it is essential that when you interview you test f

"Yankee" is a term used in the south for a northerner. It is usually not used a positive way. Much the same, "redneck" is not meant in a positive way up north. As with many insults, the group the insult is hurled at can

As someone who worked at Red Hat, and has setup Ceph Clusters. Get an expert, or a consultant. You'd need a really experienced storage admin at the least, and possibly more.

You CAN estimate slope. Look at past performance. If a person switches from a role doing front end, to a role doing back end... what does that say about their slope? Now they goto DevOps/SRE? What about shifting towards UI Design? W
