Don't forget C++. Even if you stick to other languages you would probably still want to be able to read C++. There a tons of great stuff written in C++ out there already.

To paraphrase Sun Tsu, therefore one hundred successes in one hundred complex projects are not the most skillful, creating lasting and profitable business with little or no effort is the most skillful.

I had this problem (putting or forgetting semicolons) for a while, but it looks to be gone with experience. I constantly switch from Python to Javascript to C to Ruby.

This applies to many other languages. I can translate all this to Russian and this phenomenon will hold: "Я не говорил что она украла у меня деньги" -- the same 7 meanings depending on stress.

Yes, here I agree 100%. For grunt work fear and punishment are the best motivators. But not everything is a grunt work!

Hi, Thanks for the great reply! The problem is that when you increase the pain, it also limits your possibilities. I do believe in building a business on desire alone and I believe that all great businesses were built this way.

Motivation can be positive and negative. This article suggests that the only motivation that works is negative. That's terrible advice -- only mediocre things can be created that way. I believe that we should just have extremely big unstopp

I would suggest that the most "Pythonic" way would be to use functools.partial and operator.add from the standard library. As I already wrote it would look "fs = [partial(add, i) for i in range(10)]" and it works as expected.

Workarounds: fs = [(lambda n, i=i: i+n) for i in range(10)] or from operator import add from functools import partial fs = [partial(add, i) for i in range(10)]

We've got interop already. Some Mozilla devs use git for work. Official mozilla repo is mercurial, but devs can and do use git if they prefer: http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz/2008/12/changes-to-git-mirror-o...

Right. My observation is also completely different. How could a woman be a "quality" partner/wife if she doesn't have enough experience in the art of love? It's like telling that "quality" hackers are pretty much opposed to hacks/casual pro

> Is there more to ESR's argument than that? As I understand, the idea is that market and open source are friendly forces and actually support each other in the long run. The GPL may prevent open-source software from being market-friend

1. More fonts. Lacuna is a first one that comes to my mind as a perfect free font for this kind of things. 2. Highlight curve should be more like sine wave, It looks really boring when it is like a bottom of ellipse -- a part of a sine curv

Here's a quote from related email discussion (Jan. 2009): "Here's an indisputably real-world example: AutoCAD. Most of it is written in a customized LISP; the C part is the LISP interpreter core." -- ERS

Maybe the answer is in Microsoft optimizing compiler? MS compiler may optimize the same C++ code much better than gcc.

It would be great if you put a big shiny button on your website: "Play now" or "Test drive" and let people try it without registration. Also, I think if you start charging money for premium services and make some features paid-only you will

why anyone would start a new program or module to a higher level language in C rather than C++ Linus gives very good reasons for C vs. C++ here: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/57643... I personally don't have any

Whatever downsides "fuck it" attitudes and casual sex might have they are not comparable to racism or homophobia in any way IMHO.

Why? Because you mention casual sex and irony as something similar to racism and homophobia. I hate racism and homophobia while I don't see nothing wrong or "mean" with casual sex and irony.

I think that even in US, the search engine that would ignore the rest of the world for the benefit of the average American (and with links to search Google, Yahoo! if the user wants) has this potential.
