Negotiations fail to come to a close due to both parties, not one party. Saying one party is "stupid", has been "hurting people" and "got nothing" is far from the full picture. Both sides are attempting to &quo

> CoCs are meant to Stop right there. You have no authority over what a person chooses to adopt as a "code of conduct". They can be for whatever purpose they choose. It is up to others to accept them or not.

So a user who is, in absolute terms, much more politically active and damaging to this site than I am, is permitted to post freely, as long as the majority of their posts are decreed by someone to be "not for ideological battle"?

I use this site primarily for seeing aggregated news related to tech, not for ideological battle. When I see hypocrisy, misconceptions, lies, and faulty logic being spread and promoted, when some rational and opposing voices are routinely s

It's easier to destroy than to create. And there's a lot to be gained for a few when you take down one of the engines of progress of a society.

I agree. I also feel that the majority of people have a low bar for that, like you say; I don't suspect most people consciously try to subvert constructive discussion, but I do know that's a tactic employed by a small minority.

Not that my opinion should hold much weight, but: I truly appreciate your candor. (As a general statement,) I, and many others, only wish to have reasonable, rational discussions. It's impossible to do that when there exist people who

HN is profoundly biased in the comments that appear--and those that are "squelched". It's pathetic. Example: 1 hour ago, user "remarkEon" posted something that was flagged, and then removed entirely, but before it w

Really, what do you expect? What do you expect when so much of the popular message is for people to get involved in programming, and to do so while giving away the fruits of their labor--to join open source projects and the like? I see many

If you dismiss every data point (anecdote) you come across, one at a time, of course you can eventually say there's no pattern: you dismissed all of the data.

Beneath the popular messages that everyone should be respected, that all members of certain groups should be treated well, hides the fact that there are people who do true evil, who exploit and deceive, on a daily basis.
