I'm a noob too, but yes, the FOSS options look pretty dope. SuperCollider and Sonic Pi (which is built on top of it) are so powerful I can't even imagine there are commercial solutions that can beat them!

Russian troll, you got me with that. :) Dude, Estonia is NATO, so that is a very different story. NATO would definitely have to intervene. Not that I agree with that either, but I guess it is part of some contract. You are the one who came

I don't believe they have any rights to invade any countries, including Ukraine. But I also don't believe in joining a war against a country that invaded another country just because "you think they might not stop at that&quo

You are assuming that Russia has any interest beyond the borders of the USSR, which is quite a strong assumption. By this logic you probably also supported the invasion of Iraq based on the assumption that they were producing nuclear weapon

You were literally trying to make an argument that because Ukraine is geographically part of Europe, Ukraine being in a war means Europe is in a war. Which is not the case. Again, Ukraine is in a war, Europe is not. Unless they decide to. A

I am very close to the war - my country borders Ukraine, however - Ukraine is an independent entity and their war is none of my business. If I can get cheaper gas in Russia I will continue to do so. This is an open market and I don't s

Is it Russia stopping exports to the EU or the EU deciding to stop buying gas from Russia? To me it seems like they are simply taking decisions against their citizens best interests.

You can't "capture the real world as faithfully as possible" in the same way that there is no map projection that "portrays the globe as faithfully as possible". It's the impedance mismatch between the real wor

You can buy bitcoin with cash. You can work and get paid in bitcoin. You can sell stuff for bitcoin. You can mine bitcoin. If you want something, you will find a way.

Depends how you measure it. You can indeed achieve higher efficiency than nature if you look at a single number. Where nature always wins is the combined efficiency, because it acts as a whole. You example is great because it shows just tha

Straw man. Cows should be grazing, not being locked up and fed corn. Grazing cows actually make the environment better. So rather than blaming cows, blame the way they have been grown over the past 50 years or so.

> The point of the exercise is to find alternatives that aren't so hard on the environment. Cows and grass are "the environment". Millions of years of evolution refined cows to be the best mechanism for converting grass

If the average type of paper deviates over time, it doesn't matter whether the average number of citations is low - the type (direction) of research that gets cited shifts as well, and ultimately the direction of all research done

Fair point. The way I see it - if you think about beauty, you must already have accomplished everything else. Otherwise yes, beauty for the sake of it is useless. Say I have a knife - of course I want it first and foremost to be a "goo

Umbrel started as a way to easily host a Bitcoin node, so naturally there is plenty of Bitcoin related stuff. I think they only have one crypto (ie non-Bitcoin) app though.

A sat = the 100 millionth part of a Bitcoin. Also, a sat can be further divided into millisats (1000 millisats = 1 sat) on the Lightnig Network. So, essentially, very very tiny amounts that can be sent very fast at at very small costs.

Free services attract spammers. No surprise. The "free" model is broken. Imagine how easy Twitter would get rid of spam accounts if they only charged a few sats per tweet.

I find it to be quite the opposite actually. While you get up and running faster with Django, in the long run you spend more time fighting it, whereas with Flask you only spend time on stuff that you actually need.

The whole Podcasting 2.0 / "value 4 value" movement is built on top of Lightning Network micropayments. It works. People use it. When you listen to a podcast that has the v4v tags in the feed using a compatible app you are gi

Actually LNURL-auth [1] has nothing to do with blockchains except that it makes it dead simple to use a Lightning wallet, such as Breez, to log in. All it does is send a request, get a random string, sign that with the private key, and send
