That’s a factor, but there are other reasons. Saving money, more online entertainment, the general shift of things done in person are now online, and the dark patterns that keep us tied there.

I use Invidious for this purpose. Has a priority feed only on subscriptions which is great. I would say it’s not great for discoverability, but if that’s not a use case I’d look at it.

I consider these either proxy-search engines or meta-search engines. Either way, it still accomplishes the goal of a search engine for the end user, even if it’s not the one doing the heavy lifting.
