You're using virtual environments, right? ML libraries are particularly bad, most other stuff works well. Friends don't let friends install pip into /usr/lib.

I was in an SME in the 90s where we bought 701Cs for the execs. I can confirm they were awesome, back then it was de rigueur to have a chunky docking station to mount your hugely expensive (and altogether hugely) CRT monitor. The 701C had a

There is another video showing the making-of this video. They are very open about how much effort it took to stage, it isn't a completely dynamic interaction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPVC4IyRTG8

Similar experience in my town. I got a strong 5-bar signal but their backhaul must be running on 56k modems.

If Musk actually buys Twitter I'll eat my hat. He made the offer as a flex, or to own his detractors. He has no intention of following through.

Yeah, i'm glad someone else finds that as infuriating as I do! "it's a spectrum" is just a lazy out, there needs to be proper classification or we are never going to get further with diagnosis and treatment.

My son has autism and through his schools and colleges I have known 100s of "autistic" kids and young adults. There is such variety in their traits and behaviours. I honestly don't find the label useful, I would say I am gett

I live by a couple of (vaguely related) principles: a) Consciousness is just your brain trying to anticipate the future. b) Your brain compresses (normalises?) repetition in memories. So even if day to day events happen at normal speed, the

I see this as a huge mistake (quelle surprise, this is Oracle after all). If they had just copied the RedHat model they might have been onto a winner. Free unstable, paid stable.

Your stack looks a lot like my lab setup!! Mine is based around VMs using K3OS but I have also been looking at thinkstations and other cheap Intel-T CPU workstations. How do you find disk performance and reliability?

It's free, financially. Windows 11 is Microsoft's attempt to hoover up Edge and Windows Passport evaders. It's a shame, I was just getting into Windows 10 as my personal dev desktop. I guess i'll give Ubuntu another shot

Yep! I had an eyetest in primary school, I couldn't read anything. Looking back on it years later I assume she thought I was joking or else just royally cocked-up! It left me with some strange cognitive coping strategies - like I would

Apple solve this by making spares super expensive and only available from partners. The legislation needs to stipulate what a "component" or "part" is, i.e. not the entire motherboard.

This is a bit of a leap. There is no link between belief and loneliness. I live in a largely secular country, people are choosing to not have kids due to the environment and the general satisfaction in their lives without kids. The same rea

Religious people tend to have more children, it's got nothing to do with enlightenment. In the developed world religiosity is falling but so are birth rates.

Anecdotally (but just as valid as your comment) i've found the polar opposite. I know loads of people who have left religion later in life and plenty of old atheists who never did.

I went though around 4 crappy unreliable inkjets before getting myself a Brother HL-3150CDW. It's been ultra reliable and fast, even though I only print about 2-3 pages a month. It has a super low-power standby and is always ready.
