It seems to be more about not perpetrating destructive cultural values. Tech elite use the natural curiosity of tech lovers for their own benefit, sometimes subversively. Is that good or bad? Depends on whether the tech lover cares or not.

My two take-home experiences (one right out of college, one a couple years later) were fun, interesting, and much more laid-back than what you described. I would say if a company is placing such strict requirements on you and it is not a pl

You need two eyes for depth perception. Neither individually can tell you location, your mind figures that out by combining inputs. If you move your arms and feel something near you, you still don't know where it is until your mind rel

The important point here is learning to think for yourself. I've been going through that process over the past year and from my perspective as a 25 year old male, the author is spot on.

Most, not all... The real problem is vetting the "how" and dissemination of information. A non-academic might have no idea how to present their findings through journals or conferences, even if their ideas are well-formed and vali

I don't enjoy CAH either. I have had some incredibly funny people in my life before and was able to play off their antics to have genuinely fun and creative conversations. CAH is that without the creativity (which is where the fun come

Art and engineering to me are different paths to get to the same place. Art is very free-form, flow-based, and seemingly arbitrary but which contains deeper meaning and structure that often comes out subconsciously (when done well) while wo

I totally agree, small amounts are great and I wouldn't have any of my ideas if I hadn't spent so much time learning and connecting random facts via the internet. It's hard for me to limit myself, though. Since I'm a sof

That's interesting if true. The faster YC companies fail, the faster YC can bring in new startups. The odds of success for a fresh company are probably better than the odds of success for a failing company, and if so then they have an
