As much as I hate lawsuits, I'd love to see one or two major Internet companies sued in a class action lawsuit for negligence to serve as an example and a warning to the rest. This kind of behavior from a top tier internet presence is inexc

New York is considered much friendlier towards renters than most other places. It's generally agreed(?) arbitration favors the repeat customer (the business) because why would you bite the hand that feeds you? So, I'd say arbitration is not

In general, I'd have to agree this is a clear violation of his lease and doesn't deserve sympathy, but have you guys seen the piles and piles of legalese in these New York City leases? The lease itself doesn't deserve sympathy! For exampl

While this is all nice and fluffy, the company can switch its privacy policy whenever it wants and it's not going to tell you about it if it moves in a negative direction. They only tell you about it when it's a good PR move, like here. Thi

Talking about safety, why is the driver's forehead right behind a metal beam? Even the slightest head-on crash would lead to death or paralysis!

Ah, ok, your choice looks to be in line with your situation. Regarding younger folks, most people work regular work hours in their 20s, but if you take a poll, I bet plenty of them would prefer other arrangements. In a city like New York, t

Well, your blog post says 9am-6pm, which is 9 hours, lunch included. But I wouldn't expect anything less if you're going to do 4 days per week. I'd much rather work five days a week, 11am-5pm or 12pm-6pm, without a lunch break. Can you real

I don't think the 4-day week makes sense. Once everyone switches to 4 days, what then? 3 days? I think limited hours per day makes more sense. People can be laser focused for 5 or 6 hours per day if you give them a good work environment. On

Yes, the site itself is immediately at fault, but the author used it as an example of her point, which is that the web in its current state is pathetic. There are plenty of little things that can make a website faster: image sprites, minifi

He was talking about hours worked, not class size. And he has a very good point. All the talk in the tech community about the 10x programmer comes to mind.

NYC doesn't belong on that list. Yes, it's prosperous, but it's dirty, polluted, and packed with jerks, to top it off. I live there. Forest Hills and parts of Brooklyn are about the only areas I know that are clean and beautiful in NYC, tho

People come to hackathons for many reasons. Prize money for an api at a hackathon is just one way to spend your marketing dollars as a company. On the receiving end, some people try to make a living of winning prizes at hackathons, or at le

I encounter plenty of engineers who are saying they can't come up with good ideas. I think the problem for us engineers is that we're trained to work around problems, not confront them head on. The list on this blog post is great, but it ta

I'd think a good way to hire great developers is to hire and fire quickly. I see this mentioned time and again, yet very few people actually live by it. The process would then turn into a trial period beyond which you are good to go. If you

I'd have to disagree about it being an ugly design. What was ugly was the hack of putting squares around every icon, when those icons were designed to live on their own, not in a square. That's what was ugly. I'm happy to see the squares go

Two things come to mind that might be your cause: 1) Not enough sleep and exercise. Get at least three consecutive days of solid sleep and go work out. See how it changes your mood and thoughts. 2) Your co-founder is dominant and you have n

This behavior doesn't break the web. It breaks the user experience for Lion users. It's their problem, not yours. Stop wasting your time on it. You have better things to do! Apple will fix it if it's enough of a problem.
