Fortunately you've already got experience in a field where pay is relatively high. I switched jobs right when my first kid was born and it was fine but every situation is different, if you want to compare notes feel free to e-mail me.

At the time I saw claims that licensing was the reason for the switch, it makes sense but don't know of any 1st hand sources. PDF was free of royalties so it probably made sense to switch as they reworked NeXTSTEP into OS X.

This design isn't more resilient vs supply chain problems in any obvious way but my guess is the next iPhone SE will be a derivative of the iPhone 14. Lowering repair costs paves the way to Apple offering leased phones and is directly

The cause is simpler than this article makes it out to be. Older displays had pretty narrow gamuts so very saturated colors washed out to something more legible and the crude palette construction was not much of a problem back then.

I don't know specifically but it was bad enough that Apple decided to rework OS X before they shipped.

This looks cool. I'm not sure if they are intending to go all the way to room correction but it can really do wonders. A good while back my music setup used filters calculated by an open source FIR tool with playback driven by an older

His approach is pretty well proven in that some of the buildings have been standing over 40 years which seems long enough to find most of the issues. Insulation/sealing and permitting are the two I know about, at least at house scale,

This is interesting. The Walter Segal self-build method is another approach that aims to use common materials (lumber, plywood, insulation) with little cutting so as to reduce labor and allow for later disassembly+reuse. https://

Do you see that in modern construction? As long as there is adequate insulation and the vapor retarding layer is in the right place (per code) the OSB shouldn't ever be more than damp for any extended amount of time.

Do you think compliance in the industries you listed is not extremely costly? In every case you see companies doing what they can to shed cost and risk, local compliance being one of them. FB should follow the law but the government will ha

I believe they should be forced to comply by whatever means we have and the liability should flow through to executives and senior employees.

If they had to comply with local law in every area they operate it would be extremely complicated and expensive to manage. I think they fear the precedent not the dollars in this specific case. Edit: To be clear my opinion is that FB should

There was a point of "good enough" and then not long after that (2005ish?) essentially all motherboards started including onboard audio. I would imagine the market for separate audio cards shrunk below sustainable at that point. M

This sounds like direct to satellite from existing handsets. I can imagine that LTE at 550km is possible but quite a feat of engineering.

I'm a little surprised there's not a better LCD controller for this kind of application, even a little iCE40 should be enough to implement a character display and smooth scrolling on both axes.

I have an M1 Air, under enough load it'll run right up towards 100C and that heat is localized over the processor. It seems possible there's something about the thermal design that makes this configuration more prone to this probl

I don't think there was a lot of immediate action because GIF was already entrenched but I'm guessing a lot of people learned from the situation. It sure made an impression on me.

I liked Venice a lot the one time I visited, and hope to go back at some point. It would be hard to be motivated to actually move to a small town that is on a short clock to being submerged by sea level rise though, especially if moving ent

Facebook selectively complies in what could charitably be viewed as a profit-focused strategy and less charitably as nakedly partisan. Case in point, ongoing violation of Washington State campaign finance laws.
