It's unbelievable how many languages are introduced without an example on the homepage. Imagine an Apple homepage without any iPhone pictures.

I agree, and most other commenters still miss the point about what makes Rails so great : it's not the technical part (you can point slowness, quirks in how the language/framework is used) but the human and business part. It works

It's a design decision: the creators wanted to make a sandbox in which players have to create their metagames themselves. In this regard, EVE is a masterpiece.

See "brutalist" websites. At the start it was very similar in spirit with this website: raw, functional, rejecting looks for something you appreciate in a different way. Now: ugly, full of js, heavy.

The problem I see with brutalist webdesign is that it focuses on the result instead of the process . Applying brutalism principles on the process (the upfront design and the actual code) would let beauty emerge by itself indeed, in a muc

Rust is a very different beast indeed. The fun clearly doesn't come from the "flexibility/easiness" of the language (compared to Ruby), but really from the feeling that we're all still discovering a new paradigm, ne

I think (but don't take my word for it) it's because it has nothing with tech/startups/whatever AND is related to politics/trump. Back during the US election, HN became mostly news like this, and if I remember corre

This is how I lace my shoes, with a slightly different way to place my fingers, but with the same result. I feel it's a bit faster to do than my previous knot, however the real benefits are (for me) this knot stays tight all day long,

This article doesn't make sense indeed, they are comparing a premium brand (by Tesla's own wording on their website) with luxury brands. (true) luxury brands have a love/hate relationship with "high sales", because

Tesla's own positioning has authority on the subject: their communication says "premium" cars. That's completely different than luxury. Of course, that doesn't mean you are not right to feel prestige with a Tesla, a

There is a difference between looking at the first EU country in a list and the EU as a whole. It's not a market you can decide to leave on a whim if you're a serious business.

It's interesting, I never heard about such results before (and I live in Paris). Would you care to share some links for further reading? I'm also curious to know why and how the political orientation of the mayor is relevant?

For small/solo projects I prefer to use a notebook with the first few pages reserved for an index. I complement it with a kanban board on the wall (post-it notes). What I like about it: No procrastination in a management tool (over-pla

This is my frustration as well. Today's web (as seen through search engines) is just content marketing. And to reach such a page, you have to go through ads on the results page, then a newsletter popup (sometimes two, these days), then

The assumption is (I believe) that innovation is better when it's not goal-oriented. Currently much of the funding goes to projects that have a clear path to results, but finding that path is a prerequisite, and is not funded.
