Are you happy with anyone you talk to secretly bugging the conversation and transcribing it? I don't want to be randomly assaulted on the street, also not my choice to make. Doesn't make it ok imho.

Aside: og xbox is not so expensive 2nd hand and a great way to set up a kids lan party. 1 old router, 3 xboxes, 3 tvs, 12 controllers, Halo gets you 10 year-olds' mayhem. Noisy fun. Arguably easier if xboxes are modded. MotoGP, crash t

Oh come on. You mean installing with apt on debian based linux? Ok so compared to not having to do that. Both easy once you're proficient at debian, one easier. Now do mac. Now do windows. Installation is only step /one/ in

This is a discussion of why common lisp is not particularly popular. I observe most professionals can't program in it (it's not popular). Then look at why. The very first hurdle: epic fail. Pretend it doesn't matter? On t

Try it. Point someone at trying to learn programming at sbcl. What percentage do you think have any clue what you just wrote let alone run a debian based distro or even know what that is? Compare that experience to choosing python. Forg

So not "locked" but most users don't touch the nameserver settings in their isp-supplied routers. That is quite a different thing.

Nup. Not the language. See how long it takes you to set up a Common Lisp implementation from scratch. Eg steel bank. Better yet, watch a kid try it on for size. Land of Lisp isn’t all bad but they can’t limit themselves to just one! Bracket

mac only. iirc you have to install xcode too. Compare to perl & python already installed on a mac and relatively easy to set up on windows. But I'd still call it very high on the list relative to common lisp, which is the point.

Clarifying: so you connect $something to the cable modem. Make a dhcp request and get back your public ip (and some dns servers). But it isn't doing nat or handing out local addresses to your local network. Right? _Or_ it's a comb

Never heard of a consumer router you can't switch off as a dhcp server for the local network. Also never seen one where you can't configure the ip of the nameserver being handed out for clients to use. Which ISPs actually do this?

Scheme is not common lisp. But you know where you place it on the list. I did sicp w/ racket, a 10 y.o. I know tried simply scheme w/ racket. I'd put it next to anything on the jvm (including clojure) myself. The 10 y.o. pu
