It's the same in terminal vim. A fix could be to change the background of the linenumbering to something less obtrusive. Example: http://tinypic.com/r/f0u84/7

Ah, I was too quick to reply. Sorry. I do not know if it's possible to do what you want. I find that a slight variation in background color (:highlight LineNr) helps in distinguishing the numbers from the content.

If you see no added value in unit tests you're already doing something to ensure that your programs run as expected when you refactor, try on different platforms, try different input data etc. It would be interesting to hear more about how

Wow. Weird that I've never accidentally triggered this; I'm a vim user. Another nice, "hidden" feature: CMD+SHIFT+G when in Finder opens a dialog in which you can manually enter a path with tab-completion. Also works in dialogs when opening

Sooner embarrassed by the fact that I've programmed for for over a decade and haven't released anything of significance :) I think I'm finally on the right path to finding ways of motivating myself to finish/release stuff, but that's anothe

I think that the languages used by people who voted for "Other" are the most interesting to see in this context. Could you please post what language you're using in your project if you use a language that is not listed? I use Erlang.

I downloaded iTerm 2 and it's amazing. It's a totally new application compared to it's predecessor. I finally, truly have 256 colors in the terminal now.

You're the human Fabric ( http://docs.fabfile.org/0.9.2/ )! I'd use your service if it was reasonably priced (and I hadn't invested a lot of time into automating this myself). The fact that I have taken the time to automate this workflow to

This is right up my alley; I wrote a command line gantt chart generator like two weeks ago :) I'll definatly use asterisks instead of equal signs for the bars though.

Video chat is just one of those nice-to-haves in my opinion. I work remotely a lot and always choose audio chat over video chat. Video chatting, in that context, just doesn't add anything for me. Video chat was great when my girlfriend was

In every new release I'm still stubbornly hoping for a few new features. 1. A new window management model. Cascaded windows don't do it for me. 2. 256 colors in Terminal.app. 256 colours will never happen. I'm stuck with either urxvt or set

What purpose the YC "fridge" serves beats me too. I do, however, find the service useful. And I think "Simple Private Social Networks" says it all: it tells me that I can communicate with a specific group through an interface similar to tha

I'm perfectly happy with the tools I use when programming. The tools I use to manipulate images and photos on the other hand... they're big and clunky, force me to use constipated shortcuts, are tedious to install, cannot be run remotely (w

Better yet, let's go back to using ALGOL or something. Imagine how many reusable components we could have mustered up. We'd best stop all this innovation right now before it's too late.

I don't know about other vim-users, but I haven't run any tests because my primary motivation for using vim isn't speed (it's that vim connects with my brain and my motor activity -- it just feels "right" and I get a great flow).
