Same. I don't like how this requires you to use named parameters and defer to add context to errors. It's way too easy to shadow err and I can see this causing a lot of pain in the future.

I think you should try working at a smaller company. I've also been an engineer in Japan for a while and found startups a lot easier to deal with than mid-sized or larger companies. For example, you almost never have to send e-mails be

If anything I think Rakuten and Yahoo.co.jp are the outliers. They look more or less the same as they did years ago. I think they stay the same because they don't want to upset longtime users. Maybe like how Craigslist keeps the same o

I don't this this article is very relevant in 2018. Modern Japanese websites look the same as any "hip" Western site. Take a look at Coincheck.com, for example (the exchange whose NEM just got stolen). Their landing page is t

Lexical Scanning in Go by Rob Pike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxaD_trXwRE I love everything about this talk. It walks you through building a lexer from scratch in a simple and elegant way, through a very interesting us

Definitely a 3DS, Go might just be another terrible cash grab pay-to-win game. It might also be amazing, but the 3DS is the safer choice.

We use this library at work and although keeping up with the constant API changes is annoying, it works well. My main complaint is that this library is very "un-Go". Everything is a pointer, even required parameters. I understand

Living in Japan, I have to deal with Line but I don't like it. My major complaint is that Line encourages you to spam your friends advertising their games. For example, Line Pop artifically limits the number of times you can play the g

Hello, I've lived in Japan for about 3 years now and I find these toilets indispensable. For the situation you described, I have experienced the same thing but I have found that there are a few ways of getting around it. The main way is the

There are some arcade games in Japan that use an NFC card to keep track of player data. For example, Mahjong Fight Club uses one to allow for elaborate player rankings and detailed stat tracking.
