As abeppu points out, this is their death estimate: 40.4 million [32.9 million–51.3 million] is their estimate on deaths. Further, covid deaths are severely undercounted. Our world in data reports 26 million excess deaths to date, about 5 m

With the older phones and the 90s computers, they were patently inadequate for the jobs they were doing. Every upgrade gave incredibly useful capacity. Now the phones are more than adequate. The upgrades are often fairly nice. Some years we

That's a good point, but I purposefully didn't included "distracted driver" in the list. I ought to have put "extremely sleep deprived driver". I personally have never driven drunk, extremely sleep deprived, ho

Web crawlers generally allow sites to remove them from the index. Are there any crawlers used for commercial purposes which refuse to remove sites from an index if they ask? The distinction from OpenAI is that there is no way to be removed

Indeed. Further to this, training on data involves copying it. To do so without permission robs authors of the right to contract their work for this training, either to OpenAi or any other third party.

I'm very excited about self driving cars. But I think this is a real question to be answered. The 80:20 rule applies in much of life, and it's probable that a small minority of drivers cause the majority of accidents and deaths. I

This is not at all my experience. You can't just remain at age 22 your whole life, but I've found people of the same age can look radically different. The famous image of the trucker who had the sun on the left but not right side

Good point. The curious thing to me is why number of fires wasn't that low, even though area burned was at an all time low.

Hmm. Do you have any more info about 2020? This is an interesting theory. I note a few things though 1. The number of fires is trending down, but 2. The area burned is trending up 3. The number of fires in 2020 wasn’t noticeably different.

False. Australia is the example often cited, but Australia caved and elected not to apply the law to Google and Facebook. Instead, Facebook and Google made deals outside of the law. These deals were surely larger than their earlier deals,

I'm Canadian and I suspect our problem is that we're approaching this in earnest, not realizing that the Australian law was a shakedown and made no sense from an earnest perspective. We were advised by Australia's top policy

Did you mean to reply to the person above me? My point was that is you are biking no matter how distorted it is from real world cycling you still train in movement. Whereas if debate gets corrupted you don’t necessarily learn wider skills.

That’s separate from iMessage, which is end to end. Apple used to be able to access iMessages through iCloud backups. They changed their system worldwide, now they can’t. So presumably GCBD also lost access to iMessages in iCloud backups.

You seem to be using monopoly to mean “big” or some other definition. None of the companies you list are monopolies. Google is the closest in terms of market share but even that is a weak case. It is impossibly easy to get to Bing or DuckDu
